After the rise and fall of the articles of confederation, the United States first attempt for a strong government, the new constitution declares that an chief executive shall be elected to be the leader of our nation. This chief executive will be elected in an official election and will be known as the POTUS or President of the United States. Since the birth of the Constitution many presidents have been elected and ran for one or more terms. Whether they would actually run for more terms is based on their popularity as a president. One flaw John Adams had to deal with that made him less popular was that Adams had to deal with Washington’s isolationism with the world. He came into power and was criticized by everyone on how and where he was leading this country to. This became an annoyance to Adams that he initiated controversial acts known as the sedition acts where you will be jailed if you spoke of the government and president in a questioning or rude manner. Other flaw with Adams is he jails and deports immigrants and this is known as his alien acts. In addition to his cons, Adams was criticized on his idea to eliminate voting which lost his popularity almost entirely.
Adams may have had to live in the footsteps of George Washington’s failures and weaknesses but John Adams has done popular acts as a leader to be known as strengths. One strength which Adams had which was not popular, Adams elected peace with France opposed to declaring war with them. This may not be the popular depiction among Americans but it was an important and necessary one in order to stay as a nation.
