Emmerich’s latest world “disaster”
“That’s the same building which was blown up in Independence day!”, just a whole lot bigger, dumber and stupider than the “boringly straight-faced” Olyumpus Has Fallen. Roland Emmerich has wrecked the world more than any other director, with aliens in Godzilla and continent-killing in 2012, it’s not surprising that he death-raid’s the White House again in this latest film “White House Down”. However, don’t get too excited about the “hottest flick on the block” (critic) because I was extremely disappointed with this newest ‘apocalyptic’ film. Maybe it’s time to give up deconstructing the world Roland Emmerich, because you surely didn’t do a good job in this elongated, cliche-riddled and unrealistic film.

It’s actually tear-jerking when Channing Tatum and James Sawyer get shot 5 times and survive, not because it’s upsetting, because it’s so ridiculous it’s humorous. This “action-thriller” is more like a comedy you would flick on on a Tuesday night to make you fall asleep.
Although, Emmerich sure does go light on believability and heavy on the gun fire, with 120 minutes of furious fires and extensive explosions, making the film hard to follow as most of the time the camera is balanced and the dialogue between characters is often lost in the heaving blaze. The wide-angle widescreen compositions don’t help as the camera darts and ducks through hallways of the exploding White House leaving you lost, leaving the final scene of the film being the establishing shot because the people in it are the ones who…
