Parable Of The Sower Essay

During his mission on earth, Jesus used the parable of the sower to explain how the word of God is perceived differently by different people in their hearts. The parable was also meant to show that the gospel has more meaning more than just superficial, albeit joyful and hearing of the word. When an individual is saved, they move ahead to show it through living an exemplary life like the good soil in the parable. Therefore, the parable of the sower explains the different types of people and how they react after they hear the word and the fruits they show later on.

The parable of the sower is found in three books. It is found in Matthew 13, Mark 4 and Luke 8. The lessons learnt from the parable are same through the writing are different. The parable of the sower was told by Jesus after a crowd gathered and he told them of a sower who went to sow his seeds. The seeds fell in four different places. Some seeds fell along the paths, and they were trampled on and the birds ate them up. Other seeds fell on the grounds that were rocky. The seeds grew through the withered plants, as they had no moisture to help them grow.

Other seeds dropped among the thorns. They grew up through the thorns choked them and they could not grow more. There were some seeds that fell on good soils. Those seeds grew up health and yielded crops, which were a hundred times more than what was sown. After Jesus had finished the narration of the parable of the sower, he told the people who were listening to him that those with ears should hear. The disciples of Jesus asked him to explain the parable of the sower. He said that the word of God was the seed.

He continued to say that the seeds that fell along the paths are the people who hear the word of God, though the devil comes and takes the word away from their hearts such that they do not believe, neither do they get saved. The seeds that fell on the rocky grounds were compared to the people who receive the word of God with lots of happiness upon hearing it, through the people have no root because on testing times they fall away. Those seeds that fell among the thorns and got choked were compared to the people who hear the word but throughout their life they get choked by pleasure, riches and worries.

These people do not mature as they should by the word. There were the seeds that fell on the good soils, and they stood for the people who are noble and have a good heart. These people hear the word of God, retain it and through perseverance, they produce a crop. Different lessons are learnt from the parable of the sower. The first lesson learnt is that a person’s heart condition determines the how they respond to the word of God. Thus, Christians are expected to evaluate their heart conditions so that they can know the right way to perceive the word of God.

From the parable, the Christians also learn that they should keep a tender heart towards God and his word. It is because requires the word daily to guide them as it is on James 1:22, one should not only listen to the word of God and deceive themselves. They should do what it says. More lessons can be learned from the parable is that one soil conditions affect growth, and so does the environment a Christian is. Christians who reside in environments where the word of God is preached constantly are likely to be the “good soil.

There are those who rarely have the opportunity of hearing the word, when they hear it they may be joyful but because they have no good knowledge, and their faith has not grown strong, they fall easily. The word of God is preached widely, in newspapers, by the streets, in radios and those who take the interest in listening, their faiths are strengthened and thus grow strong.
