Personal Narrative: An Interview With My Mother Essay

As we begin our interview, my mom, Mary Ann Sandoval, a diligent working individual who had been through a lot in her college years. She is someone who knows and understands that working hard comes second nature. In the beginning of the interview, her appearance had a nervous and skeptical look, since she wasn’t sure what to expect. Her major was Accounting/Finance because she loves the way numbers interact with a numerous amount of careers. The colleges that she had applied to and attended to was Contra Costa College, Diablo Valley College (DVC), and Oakland Merritt College, nevertheless they are all junior colleges.

While attending the colleges, she had received a miniature amount of assistance ensure that she can pay for her tuition and books. Mary Ann had never finished junior college, however is hoping to one day. During college, there were rough stages that had occurred that were countless. Other than that, there was one person who was there to assist Mary Ann through all the chaos, which was her closest friend; both of them had changed each others lives to keep going, and had also challenged themselves as well.

Mary Ann had always knew what she wanted to do if she worked hard; and would also do something that she would adore, so that it wouldn’t even feel all of stress just crashing over her. ” also knew finishing school should be my priority, but I didn’t have time to focus on my education because I was working 2 to 3 jobs which was banking and even working at restaurants,” she had explained. Her goal is definitely to get back into school and complete what she had begun.

In college there wasn’t any problems or incidents that occurred and Mary Ann didn’t get into any trouble because it wasn’t part of her. The colleges did not have any insane issues back in her days and it was actually peaceful. There were a few friendships that were made, but she didn’t actually make an effort to assemble more friends, since the time was just not there. She had to work full time and her time was restricted, therefore she was only able to go to school part time, during that time period wasn’t any more options.

There were tough times during her life in college, which in this case was considered a roller coaster that goes up and down, but with twists and turns that she couldn’t stay on track and it was exceptionally hectic. “My priorities changed rapidly because my family didn’t support me, no one really cared so I also had to worry about taking care of myself during the college years,” she had stated. Having your family not be there for you definitely hurts you inside that you don’t even want to try anymore because you think it is useless if there is no one to encourage you.

She also had to change the course of her life from working and her education was placed on the back burner. Which shows that school work wasn’t even in the picture, but keeping yourself alive and healthy was certainly the main priority. There are times where you just don’t have anything to do because you finished everything, that is why they have school activities which fills up your time quick, but that wasn’t even relevant to Mary Ann because first of all she had 2 to 3 jobs and second of all she was a shy person and socialization was hard to do and she also had the additional work from school.

Working was the only way that she could survive and at this point education was not an importance, but she looks back now and wouldn’t change anything that she had done because at the moment it was crucial for her to work versus school. There was no assistance from the family or even her friends. She had good grades and tried to focus on her education, she held a 3. 0 and above average. There were no issues in class and she will always finish projects and homework ahead of time.

The curriculum wasn’t hard if it was something that I enjoyed such as business and accounting; if it was the other classes such as political science, history and the other subjects because it was hard to stay on track, but I knew I had to take these classes to get the credits that I needed,” she had confirmed. Besides all of the chaotic issues that have went on the best thing that ever happened to her in college was when she had found out what she wanted to do as a career.

She always knew working with numbers was her calling because it came naturally to her. Therefore, she knew her career path would be in a finance environment and she would be able to focus more as well as getting her work done that is need to be completed. As we concluded our interview Mary Ann had looked happy and had said that,”I am proud of what I have accomplished throughout the years. ” Also that time goes by really fast and how it brought back the memorable and non-memorable memories.
