The audience for writing project one final is for my instructor Heather Burford , for my ivy tech English 111 class. My peer response that I received was very helpful. I was told that I had some grammar mistakes. Also I had a suggestion to fix where | had one of my paragraphs. Also I was told that my writing was a little confusing English wise. But that what I hope to improve on in this class. I also had some good feedback saying that I had a good summery and understanding of the article.
I tried fixing as much of my grammar mistakes as I could see and hear but like always I know this paper could be cleaned up better somehow. I just do not see myself what I could fix. I actually enjoy the topic because I actually knew who J. R. Simplot was but I did not know a lot about the man. The Man Called MR. SPUD French fries are delicious and quick to cook. Almost all Americans have eaten them in their life time. Ranging from homemade to fast food chains. McDonalds is probably the most well-known fast food places around the world.
But what most people do not know is who supplies them with their food. The supplier for McDonald’s French fry is J. R. Simplot. This paper is a summery and response style writing this summery is over, Eric Schlosser article “why the fries taste good” then the response to the summery the approval and disapproval of J. R. Simplot. J. R. Simplot was a very wealthy man when he died. His life did not start out that way. In fact he was raised on a farm till he was 15, he dropped out of school and ran away from home(Schlosser 2001, p1).
He found work at a potato warehouse in the small town of Declo, Idaho (Schlosser 2001, p2). He sorted potatoes with a “shaker sorter,” a hand-held device, nine to ten hours a day for 30 cents an hour (Schlosser2001,p2). ” He wheeled and dealed till he had enough money to have a farm leased to him and he learned how to grow potatoes from his landlord. He eventually solid all of his farm equipment to start a business. He gained enough money to open a ware house and everything just kept growing to the point where he was the biggest shipper of potatoes and was running thirty three warehouses (Schlosser2001 p2).
He started shipping onions as well and then found out from another company that was buying onions from him how to dehydrated onions. After sealing his dehydrated onions to the arm he expanded his business exponentially. After the World War 2 he invested in frizzing technology just in time for the 50’s (Schlosser 2001 p3). Although things did not work out with the individual buyer, J. R. Simplot went in to business with the McDonalds brothers (Schlosser 2001 p4).
J. R. Simplot did not stop his empire at sealing and shipping. J. R. Simplot invested onto companies that also have to do with food like different vegetables and other farming products (schlosser 2001 p5). He did not limit himself to farming based products. He invested $1 million dollars in a startup company which was in Micron technology and now that company is worth over one billion dollars (schlosser 2001 p5). J. R. Simplot was An eighth grade dropout, building this empire of money and land is impressive but what is more astonishing is in a way he was not a snob also he believes in poetical.
Mr. JR Simplot had the allotment rags to riches story. He had some great qualities even if he was not a multi billionaire, but since he was an accomplished man that would make him all the more inspirational to people. Even though he dropped out of school and ran away from home he was extremely smart for a fifteen year old boy and he was brave to. It is interesting how he hustled teachers of all people it was brilliant. He was non-religious man (schlosser 2001 p5).
He was extremely lucky through the years wining a coin toss for an electric shaker then, starting an actual business from that startup, who knows what would have happened if he did not have won that coin toss (schlosser 2001 p5). He may have been rich but he was known to wear jeans, eat at McDonalds and drive himself around. Since the history of the man and the company was displayed that supplies McDonalds with their French fries think about that the next time anyone who reads this paper eats French fries.
