Many cultures from different countries have come over to America and made it a “Melting Pot. ” Each year in America, many immigrants come from different countries and shares their unique cultures with America. As Marin used the term Melting pot in his essay “Towards something American,” it describes as an unused furnace that does not burn until imported values and lives stop being fed into the system; moreover, Marin mentioned that Americans have no culture.
On the other hand, Taylor describe in her article “Analogies for America: Beyond the Melting Pot “that different melting pot is actually a blend of our different cultural and ethnic background because Americans can and do come from all ethnicities and races; therefore, we all look like Americans. Wong describe her multicultural story and how it feels to have multiple cultures at the same time in her “The Struggle to Be an All-American Girl. ” Rodriquez and Peterson talks about how to understand different cultures, how to interact and how each different cultures helps America become strong.
So the perspective of people such as Wong, Webb and Peterson shape American cultures in a beneficial way of appreciating the different cultures. Marin wrote in his essay in which Americans do not have a culture. He believes that immigrants always seek a better life in America yet turn their life into a job working every day. Marin simply thinks that to have a better job, one must keep working. To keep going, they need energy and the cycle keeps going on. “The fact is that the values and traditions fed to the forge of American life never vanished altogether” (Marin 83).
At this point Marin is explaining how different cultures’ values and traditions are given to something else. That is why American life is still here and not flew away. Many people stereotype people who came from different countries, which leads to spread a false message in the community. Therefore, Marin believes that if people continues to stereotype immigrants then our culture will be shattered. Marin explained how people judged Arabians throughout one incident and many false messages have been spread, which leads him to think that America’s melting pot is not accurate.
According to Taylor, the melting pot in America is straight forward and like a salad bowl. Different immigrants with different cultures and ethics add their flavor to the pot. “What is distinctive about modern America is the looseness of the constraints, and the array of available choices” (Taylor par 3). Taylor explains in her essay how accepting different cultures and ethnic identities can be an array of new possible choices for America. Taylor explains how different cultures add in the American melting pot which makes America.
As Taylor explained, America is a nation of immigrants and cultures are like a typical American menu as she compared American cultures with different kinds of fruits. American culture is surrounded by the customs and traditions of the United States. Culture is surrounded by religion, food, language, how we greet visitors, how we behave with others and a thousand other things. Rodriquez talked about in his “The Fear of Losing a Culture,” that immigrants come from different countries, forget their own cultures, and adopt the American culture.
Immigrants bring new styles, attitudes, and qualities which takes America to a new level of cultural diversity. “America is no longer tell that economic strength derives from individualism” (Rodriquez 94). Rodriquez explains that, not every immigrants takes low paying jobs which affect America’s economy which reduces paying wages; therefore, America could not get or have the economic strength without the many cultures it has now. Being a multicultural is something to feel proud, multicultural gives us understanding of two different cultures at the same time.
Wong showed how she came to understand the importance of her real culture and the true meaning of being multicultural. Wong’s mother wanted her to go to a Chinese school, which realized her the meaning of being multicultural because she was being an American and still had Chinese culture. “I’d be able to keep up with the world outside Chinatown” (Wong 90). Many students in Chinese schools were talking about her like that when Wong spoke English. Wong did not like the school and the people; therefore, she wanted to come back to America.
When Wong went back to her childhood memories, she felt sad because she understood why her mother made her go to Chinese school, there are many people who are all-American; however, she wanted to be someone who has a double cultural background, and she had many opportunities to keep her Chinese culture but she regretted that she missed those opportunities. The whole point of her essay was that she came to understand the importance of her original culture and true meaning of being multicultural. Hawaiian and Native American both seems Native Americans, according to their different race and ethnicity both are different.
Native Americans were original inhabitant of North America, still Hawaiians were not. “How Natives Think” by Peterson talks about Native Americans and compares it with Western, European and Hawaiian to understand different cultures. “Two hundred years later, a marked anxious of culture is returning all over the world, among the victim of Western domination” (Peterson 13). Peterson explains how this culturalism has been called all among the most striking, perhaps most significant and phenomena of modern world history.
People speaks of their culture using the word as a value of respect, commitment and defense, therefore; the reason to oppose this first reason to rise to an understanding of cultures as distinct forms of life. The melting pot in America is a sign of how there is love and bond between multiple countries. Different races, ethnicities and language do not affect the way America is today. Marin thinks that immigrants are wasting their time in America. Sweating their selves out and getting nothing is better to spend life peacefully in their own country.
Taylor did not think the melting pot was accurate in America; however, she compared with fruits and vegetables. However, authors like Wong, Rodriquez and Peterson did not let it happen, they proved that the melting pot is accurate. According to different perspective of Wong, Rodriquez and Peterson, Immigrant shape the America as they bring prosperity, unique style and positive impact which these people are not all that different from us have in this country when they reach our shores. These authors have helped encourage different culture and have come one step forward to shape better American culture.
