Oedipus’s fate was to kill his father and marry his mother. Oedipus believed that this man he killed, King Laios was Oedipus father. Oedipus thought that the long nosed man who brought him up was Oedipus real father. Oedipus ended up leaving Thebes because he married the one he loved which happened to be Jocasta-his own mother, Oedipus fled from Thebes after finding out about their marriage. Oedipus also went mad with the guilt of killing the king and queen of Thebes.
Oedipus was born in Corinth so when Laios died Oedipus decided to become king because he had Oedipus son to take his place. Oedipus believed that Oedipus’s coronation was the cause of Oedipus death, Oidpius’s wife had cursed Oedipus. Oedipus dies in a chariot crash when Oidpius is out looking for Oedpcitus at the border of Corinth and Thebes.
Oedipus’s brother who is now king wants Oedipus dead because he suspects Oedipus is the one who killed Laios which means Jocasta married her own son.
Oedipus was a man who was destined, by fate, to kill his father and marry his mother. Oedipus’s story can be found in Oedipus the King written by Sophocles. Many people have the mistaken impression that Oedipus married his mother because he wanted to. Oedipus did not want to kill his father and marry his mother, Oedipus did this because he was destined to. Oedipus was considered a victim of fate when all Oedpius wanted in life was peace and happiness.
This Oedipus the King word pre-print clearly shows how Oedipus thought he could live happily ever after with his family and everyone would be content. Oedipus’s dream shattered when one day traveling back from Thebes he found out that the king had mysteriously died. Oedipus then assumed the throne as the next rightful heir by Greek law which left no room for argument between two other men who were also claiming the throne.
Oedipus then figured out that the cause of Laius’s death was by Oedipus himself, but Oedipus could not be held responsible for killing his own father because Oedipus had no memory up until this point in Oedipus life where he killed Laius. Oedipus was told by an oracle when he was younger to avoid killing his own father and Oedipus did all he could do to try and obey the command given to him by the Oracle.
Oedipus’s life continued on a downward spiral from there due to circumstances beyond Oepdiu’s control. To make matters worse, Oidius found out from another Oracle that Oedipus’s claim to fame would be his downfall. Oedipus then tried to rid himself of his fate, that was sealed upon Oepdius’s birth the day Oidius was born, but Oedipus could not fight fate.
Oedipus got so frustrated with trying to escape Oidpius’s path in life that Oidpius plotted against Creon who wanted Opiduis gone off the throne. Not knowing Oicpius’s true intent for wanting Opicpius out of the way, Creon allowed Oidpius exile all because he believed Oicpiu’s claim about not being worthy enough to rule Thebes any longer. Even though it is now too late Oedipus then begged Oidpiu’s old friend Tiresias to help Oedipus out of Oer’s predicament. Oedipus fate was sealed like Oicpius said it would be and Oepdius killing Oedmius own father along with Oedipus marrying his mother, Jocasta, who married Oedipus father before they were wed is now realized as the prophet Tiresias foretold all those years ago.
Oedipus now knows that Oedipus’s demise will happen at Thebes after Creon comes into power once Oepdiuis’s exile has ended. Creon received a baby from an oracle from Apollo which he claimed was Oedipus son, but Oedipus son was dead. Oedipus then figured that Oicpius would not try to get Oedipus’s child back once Oedipus’s exile ended because Oedipus’s child was still alive and well. Before Oedipus’ death Oicpiu’s fate is sealed the day Oicpiu kills Oedipus’s father Laius which leaves Oedipus puis mother Jocasta free to marry her son without fear of discovery.
