In this paper I will discuss the consequences of absent fathers in children’s lives. Many children in the world today grow up without a father. Fathers are very important in a child’s life, without one, they will only receive a certain percentage of parenting. Without a father, how can the child get the full experience of a family? The consequences of absent fathers are horrible, but the outcome can either be positive or negative. In America it is estimated that 33 percent of children live without their birth father. The consequences of absent father are unbelievable, some children can have a positive outcome and others may not.
The cause of an absent father can affect by increasing social and mental behavior issue. Also it can effect by increasing the rate of depression and anxiety. Not to mention it also increases the use of substance misuse. However the cause of absent fathers can effect to positive outcomes such as having a successful job. Also for some children it leads to them becoming famous for something that they are good at. It can additionally affect them by increasing their motive to strive for success. Without having a father growing up, did you really live out your childhood?
A father is supposed to be there for his children. Fathers have expectations that have to be met. In a family, fathers are the beings that have to take care of them. Fathers provide the protection, bravery, and discipline in the family. Sure a single mother can do all three all those but it’s the father’s job mostly. A single mother should have no business providing for her children and not receiving help from the father. For most women who grow up without fathers the results are tragic. Some women result into having low self-esteem. When women have low self-esteem, life is not good.
They have negative feelings all the time, which can lead to thoughts of suicide. Also for women having low self-esteem they always think negative of themselves which leads to depression. Low self-esteem is not mentally and physically for anyone. The consequences of having it is terrible, some effects are tormenting. Also some of them have such low self-esteem it affects their relationships which cause relationship issues. One major issue is trust; they can never trust their partner to the full potential. If the man who gave the birth was not there for them, what makes them think that a guy that likes them can?
Usually when women grow up without a father, their career selection is very poor. Some women go in the field of escorting or erotic dancers. Is it their fault that they grew up to become that? They didn’t have a father to guide them and tell them what to do and what not to do. Growing up they didn’t have a man of dominance in their lives and when they finally received one, it affected their lives negatively. Another consequence of women growing up without a father is they can easily be taken advantage of, whether it’s on a school campus, home, or even just on the streets.
A single mother can help maintain the child but without male dominance at home they can be easy to manipulate. According to www. rainn. org 80 percent of women who get raped are under the age of 30. Also 44 percent are under the age of 18. For my theory I believe that is still a rational explanation and does not lack ability to explain some aspect of the problem. My theory was that the consequences of an absent father could go be positive or negative. For a basic theory mines was really accurate, the consequences of not having a father can have both positive and negative effects.
The consequences are brutal for growing up without a father for either boy or girl. For women, their effects are worse than guys. For a guy, their negative effects are the typical mental and behavior issues. Women have the typical issues as well, such as poor career choice and poor persons selection to be around. But the mental issues the women suffer from not having a father is terrible. It affects their trust, pride, and self-esteem. I don’t believe that there is a better alternative explanation or alternation in my theory that would better fit the data.
Another alternative explanation would state the negative consequences that fit the data. My theory is neutral, it states the consequences are bad, but the outcome and effects can be either positive or negative. A lot of people have grown up without a father and became successful. Some of those people are Alicia Keys, Adrian Grenier, Lance Armstrong, and Mary J Blidge. But one person exact is Shawn Corey Carter also known as Jay Z. Carter was abandoned by his father and grew up to become a famous rap artist. According to www. withoutafather. om Carter has many accomplishments, without having his father in his life.
Without having his father in his life is what made him strive for success even more. Carter has many achievements for his success. Carter has many albums that have made a lot of money. Conferring from www. thefamouspeople. com in 1988 Carter won the Billboard Music Award for R&B artist of the year. So far in Carter’s career he has received 51 Grammy Awards nominations and he won 17 Grammy Awards, also Carter has won six BET awards. In 2009 he won The American Music Awards for his album “The Blueprint 3″.
Also in 2009 Time Magazine ranked him and Beyonce as Hollywood’s top-earning couple. Not to mention he won “Favorite Male Singer” in 2010 on the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. Data shows that 24. 7 million children live without their birth father. Theory shows that the consequences of not having a father are negative. So where is the responsibility in our society? If the data and theory is bad society should increase their habits of responsibility. In society it’s not just one race that’s growing up without a father its every race. For some fathers it is a personal choice to not take care of heir kid.
However there are some good fathers out there that want to take care of their children but for some reason they can’t. For those that it is a personal choice there are consequences to their actions. For their choice to not take part of their child life can affect society in the future. Society has a large interest of how many kids have absent fathers in their lives. There should personal boundaries that should be on its influence. They are only kids, so by having personal boundaries should want them to strive to take care of their child.
