Fellow military soldiers, we gather on this fine day before the start of what Mr. President states will be a short win for this great country. Winston Churchill, a great leader of Britain during The Second World War. One of his adventures include getting captured by the Boers, then a daring escape thru a bathroom window. This made Churchill a celebrity and hero to Britain.
He states during a speech from The Second World War what I am trying to summarizing to the brave men and women in front of me with, “We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender. ” | need for all of you to defend our island. I need for all of you to fight on the beaches. I need for all of you to fight on the landing grounds. I need for all of you to fight in the fields, in the streets, and in the hills.
I need for all of you to never surrender, for I will never surrender in helping you, leading you, or our country. Let men say, after a thousand years, ‘That was their finest hour, and forever will live in infamy. ‘ Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties. We all know why we are here, it’s our job, and this is our nine to five occupation that we love. We may not say it now, but when we aren’t at work, we miss it before five minutes is up. I know, for I love this job and that’s why I have been here for more than 30 years.
I cannot blame you for losing heart if I was not there losing my heart with you, exhausted to all extinct, merely for Ito reap in the rewards. As for I, a decorated general from three different wars, I have proved myself day in and day out. Not only to my fellow generals before me, but to the men and women who stood beside me fighting to defend our country who has won five different wars in her history. A country that has 300 million citizens, counting on us to prove why we dominate. This is why we wake up every day, for the families we love and for the ones we will never meet. I want you to look to your left, now to your right.
See your brothers and sisters who will have your back just like you have theirs. We need to honor the brothers and sisters that have fallen fighting for what we all believe in, the sacrifice we all give day in and day out. Everyone has a job that they need to accomplish during battle. Without you to fulfill your role, we cannot operate as a whole to the higher cause. Now, I am not attempting to pressure any of you to be frighten. This job is not made for everyone, but I hope… NO! I know every single one of you is trained and equipped for what is head. That’s why my job is not to be somewhere else doing something that’s not important at all.
My job is to be next to all of you, standing shoulder to shoulder as they did in the Civil War, and for what I ask, you will know, I would never ask something I have never do or would not do myself. Let me tell you of a story told among the ranks of many men and through the centuries. Many of you may have heard of the story of Troy, better known for the Trojan horse. There is an old saying – Beware of Greeks bearing gifts. This saying comes from the legend of the Trojan horse. As the story goes, a long time ago, there was an ancient city-state named Troy on the coast of Turkey.
The city of Troy was protected by a 20 foot high wall built around the city. The Greek warriors had been trying to breach the wall around Troy for about ten years. Odysseus, a Greek general, had a plan to build a wooden horse and then they would leave it in front of the gates of Troy. As the Greek warriors sailed away, the people of Troy rushed outside, cheering. They dragged the horse inside the city gates to keep it on display. That night, while the Trojan people were sleeping, the men hiding inside the wooden horse climbed out and opened the gates.
The waiting Greek army entered Troy; you can imagine what happened to Troy. (Donn) Why do you think I have told a story that everyone probably knows? If you don’t, that’s probably why you are in the military, ha-ha just joking. This is a story that has stood the test of time, and will continue to live on for centuries. But why has it stood the test of time? The question I ask is the reason for the reason why I stand before you. We are the Greeks in the story. We will out smart our opponent! We will be stunning and be remembered by our enemy! We will leave our mark on this world for the time we are here!
We will make this war live in the stories told from generation to generation! We will triumph to victory! We will crush them from inside there city walls! We will win! For war is never ending. And I hope in a thousand lifetimes, they look at the accomplishments of the fellow brave warriors before them and follow in the footsteps of the great men and women I gaze upon right now. For words can only do so much to the memory of life, it’s the actions one does to help the population. We leave today with the words of a wise philosopher, Plato: “Only the dead have seen the end of war. “
