The King Arthur legend is an ancient tale of a young Welsh prince. He would later become King of Britain, and his famous knights would protect the kingdom, search for the Holy Grail, and create their own adventures in Camelot. King Arthur has become one of the most well known legends throughout history.
This story begins with King Uther Pendragon, King of all Britain. One day, while at a party in London to celebrate his conquest over the King of Scotland, he caught the attention of Ygerna del Acqs, King Llud’s wife. King Uther was struck by her beauty and fell madly in love with her. King Llud granted King Uther permission to see Ygerna del Acqs, but after spending just one night with her, King Uther arranged for King Llud to be murdered during a hunting trip.
King Uther and Queen Ygerna were crowned rulers not long afterwards and had their first child: Arthur. Miraculously, the sword Excalibur was handed down from heaven; it could cut through anything except another blade. King Uther used Excalibur to cut a stone in half, and he buried the halves on opposite sides of Wales to form a wall between his kingdom and King Rience’s territory who was King Llud’s murderer. King Uther had no choice but to fight King Rience when King Rience tried to invade Britain across the wall with his army, and King Uther fought valiantly: killing King Rience and driving off King Rience’s army.
King Arthur continued to grow up and became a spectacular warrior without compare. One day, Merlin appeared at court and told Arthur that he would be king one day if he pulled out the sword stuck in the stone behind him. King Arthur did so, was crowned king by Sir Gawain, King of the Green Knights, and King Arthur ruled wisely for many years.
King Arthur was not perfect though; he had two major flaws that would later haunt him. King Arthur fell in love with his sister, Queen Morgan le Fay’s handmaiden Guinevere. King Arthur tried to keep their relationship a secret but was found out by Sir Lancelot one day while King Arthur was at King Pellinore’s tournament. The only other flaw that King Arthur had was that he became over-confident after winning several tournaments and challenged Sir Lancelot to a duel which cost King Arthur his life when Sir Lancelot defeated him easily…
Arthur can be seen as both good and evil in this legend. He is responsible for the death of King Llud, but King Arthur also saved Britain from King Rience. King Arthur killed King Rience himself while King Rience was illegally invading England so King Arthur would be hailed as a hero for defending his own castle, but he also killed King Pellinore’s son Sir Tor when there was no reason to do so since the only reason why Sir Tor challenged him was because he had overheard Queen Morgan le Fay plotting against him.
King Arthur is still seen today in many different ways. Some see him as a legend that is pure fiction while others believe that he did exist and that all of the stories are based on real events. Many people think that King Arthur really existed around 500 A.D., but this has not been proven yet. King Arthur’s legend has been passed down through the years, and it is even one of the most popular legends in our modern day society.
King Arthur made King Uther look much more benevolent since King Arthur was good to his subjects while King Uther only cared about having an affair with King Llud’s wife Ygerna del Acqs. For these reasons, King Arthur will always be remembered as a hero that stood up for justice and what was right in this legend.
King Arthur was first mentioned in the early 9th-century. King Arthur’s final battle, against his son Mordred, is said to have taken place near the town of Camlann on June 19, 537 AD. King Arthur died later that day and this is thought to be the end of King Arthur. Some people say there was an attempt to keep King Arthur alive by bringing him up into a Christian heaven or by saying he had gone into hiding but found no rest until after the British Empire fell.
King Arthur and his Knights were known as noblemen who defended their realm from enemies, most notably barbarians invaders. King Arthur used superior fighting skills to defeat these enemies along with his twelve main knights The Knights of the Round Table are said to have included King Arthur’s best knights, Gawain, Galahad, Percival, Bors, Lancelot, Tristan and King Pellinore. King Arthur made the Knights swear an oath of loyalty to him until their deaths.
King Arthur’s Camelot is identified as being near Winchester or Caerleon. King Arthur ruled from his castle on the River Usk for twenty-two years with Queen Guinevere at his side. King Arthur had a son named Mordred who turned against him and took over Britain. King Arthur fought several battles before falling ill and dying in 542 AD (Mallory 89).
The legend of King Arthur was embellished by many authors such as Sir Thomas Malory and Alfred Lord Tennyson to include the Knights of King Arthur’s Round Table and King Arthur’s Camelot. King Arthur is a legendary figure who has been written about for centuries by many different authors.
King Arthur and his knights were very important to England, so much so that King Arthur has become a legend. King Arthur was the legendary ruler of Britain who led the defense against Saxon invaders in the early 6 th century. King Arthur is said to have united Britain through force of arms after several kings had failed to subdue their rivalries. King Arthur’s exact historical existence cannot be proven or disproven, but he has become associated with many myths concerning magic and Merlin which might have been inspired by earlier Celtic legends.
According to history King Arthur was born in 4 th century Wales as Uther Pendragon’s illegitimate son raised by local nobility after Uther killed his parents when he was young. King Arthur was brought up by his foster sister Morgan le Fay who had magical powers. King Arthur became King of Britain after he lifted the sword Excalibur (actually a Roman sword) from stone in which it lay at Glastonbury Abbey where King Arthur is now buried under an effigy.
King Arthur then unites with twelve knights to form Knights of the Round Table. King Arthur and his knights set out on many great adventures including slaying giant dragons, saving damsels, and travelling to the Underworld to rescue King Arthur’s mother Igraine. They also fight many foreign rulers such as King Claudas of Gaul and Emperor Lucius Tiberius of Rome who demand tribute payments from King Arthur.
