Oscar Wilde was on the one hand the first man who lived in homosexual relationship in public and on the other hand he represented the theory of new hedonism. New Hedonism is a life philosophy, which was inspired by Oscar Wilde. New hedonism as an ethical doctrine combines the wishes to achieve the momentary as much as possible intensity of feelings and not suffering from bad conscience for this. New Hedonists should do everything in order to maintain high spirits and follow their desires without interfering with anyone else’s freedom.
New Hedonism does not recognize abstinence and holds suffering to be caused only by false moral and societal norms and conventions and not by nature itself. The Theory Of New Hedonism Oscar Wilde (1854 – 1900) said that everyone pursues pleasure, but very few people know what true happiness really means: “Wherever you are, be all there. ” The development of New Hedonism started with him. New Hedonism is characterized by hedonistic sensuality and materialism. To achieve happiness, New Hedonists should have an active life in order to take advantage of the realization of their wishes as much as possible.
The New Hedonist’s creed says: “There is no passion for the pursuit of which men will not readily violate all the principles of honor and decency which society has built up”. In other words, New Hedonism aims at following its desires regardless of considerations about cost or consequences, laws or anything else that contradicts it. New Hedonists pursue pleasure above everything in a creative way in their lives. This means if a New Hedonist can do something easily and quickly, he would not waste his time and energy in order to do it slowly and complicatedly. New Hedonism is mainly responsible for the sexual revolution of the 1960s.
As New Hedonists all pleasures should be followed without showing any inhibitions or feelings of guilt. Though this includes such things as taking drugs and having sex with strangers, but New Hedonism does not require absolute excess in everything. New Hedonism tries to avoid pain strictly since New Hedonisists believe that man can become happy if he can remove obstacles that cause pain from his life, such as the fear of death. New Hedonists try to overcome their natural state through creativity and activity in order to achieve a higher level of existence: “Life is too short for us to be small”.
New Hedonism is not characterized by self-tormenting or anything else that lacks pleasure and creativity. New Hedonists do not want to follow the principle of fighting against nature, which means New Hedonists do not try to prevent pain nor suicide. New Hedonists only seek their own self-fulfillment without regarding the state of others. As one New Hedonisist said: “The aim is to enjoy life, there is no happiness at all in doing without things. ” New Hedonism as an ethical doctrine stands out as a different alternative between traditional morality and hedonistic eudaemonism (the ethics of happiness).
New Heedonomics does not deny that New Hedonisists can be moral, but New Hedonism defies the traditional morality. New Hedonism thinks that it is nothing wrong with doing what one desires and should refuse to follow the principles of other people in order to achieve happiness. New Hedonism rules out any interference or imposition on one’s freedom and pleasure by others for New Heedonomics every man has a right to experiment with his own life without hurting another person: “I stand for enjoyment” means: “I will not hurt you”.
New Hedonism opposes asceticism, which New Hedonisists see as a form of reaching negative goals such as fasting from food or withholding oneself from sex or alcohol. New Hedonisists do not think that New Hedonism is a spiritual approach, but New Hedonism has its roots in spirituality. New Hedonisists include both atheists and theists who believe that New Heedonomics is a valid alternative to any kind of traditional current philosophy or religion that places pleasure as a lower goal.
New Hedonist scientists have even found proofs for life after death from quantum physics, which New Hedonist followers look forward too as an opportunity to “enjoy” their eternal life as well as this one. New Hedonism stands out as a unique doctrine between hedonistic eudaemonism and traditional morality which New Heedonomics regards both of them as narrow-minded doctrines on happiness compared with Heedonomics’ more open and creative New Hedonism.
New Heedonomics does not make distinctions between New Hedonisists based on their religious or non-religious views, but New Hedonism also insists that New Heedonomics principles are valid for all people who live in the same era without any regard to race, class or genders. New Heedonomics sees New Hedonism as a big step towards spirituality by maximizing pleasure since New Hedonisists have no limits in achieving happiness according to New Heedonomics. New Heedonomics believes that every person is responsible for his/her own spiritual progress through creativity and pleasure, which is an essential factor for New Heedonomics’ followers.
Since New Hedonomics only accepts New Hedonisists who are actively involved in New Heedonomics’ New Hedonist activities, New Hedonomics does not allow New Hedonisists to be passive. New Heedonomics only accepts New Hedonism’s principles of pleasure and creativity without limitation, which excludes New Hedonisists who are tied down either by their fears or authority.
