Almost all of the people grew up going to the zoo. Many children thought that the zoo was their favourite destination, but it taught them nothing about how animals belonged in their natural habitat People going to the zoos today only have one purpose, which is to seek entertainment instead of enlightenment.
Equality does not require equal or identical treatment; it requires equal consideration from people who find it acceptable to interfere with animals and keep them locked up in captivity for entertainment purposes, as for this, people ignore the fact that keeping animals in zoos constitutes one of the greatest injustices of all time which concludes that zoos should be shut down. Furthermore, a large number of facilities claim that they care about animal welfare and state that they are important contributors towards wild conservation but most of these claims do not stand up to scrutiny. Lastly, zoos are for entertainment purposes for visitors and nothing more. Many people argue that zoos are mandatory to have. Zoos save animals from extinction. Without the zoos, animals would have long ago become extinct. Some of the animals will be extinct soon, such as the Amur leopard, black rhino, Siberian tiger, and the Sumatran orangutan. The future generations will not get a chance to see them.
A zoo is a great destination for people to gain firsthand appreciation for the divine beauty of nature and appreciate the beautiful Earth. Animals are not being caged, they’re being kept safe and fed every day, although they need their freedom, they’re safer in the zoos. The magnificent animals deserve to be recognized and kept from hiding in the nature and so Zoos should stay open for many generations. Zoos are place animals behind steel rods and glass walls and claim that they’re there for educational purposes. The only purpose people have is to look at them as if they are a wallpaper for a few minutes and go on with their day.
These visitors aren’t learning much. In any case, people can learn more from the nature programs available on television, many which show animals who are in their natural habitat. For example, The Animal Planet series Meerkat Manor, for particular, used infrared cameras and platform which was remote controlled to be able to fulfill an educational purpose of watching an African mammal that many viewers may not know about. The entertainment purpose has overpowered the educational purpose, however, now the purpose is strictly for entertainment.
For example, Rob Laidlaw, the executive director of Zoowatch, a Toronto-based advocacy group that had three elephants removed from the Toronto Zoo, said, “I haven’t seen anything empirical that shows there’s real education going on. ” The education purpose is long gone now. The educational value of seeing caged animals is similar to going to an auto showroom to look at the displayed cars. The information one gets wouldn’t lead them to use the information in a meaningful way to do something purposeful for the animals, then it is knowledge for knowledge’s sake and that is not a good reason for animals to be caged.
There isn’t much data to show that visiting a zoo is bad for the animals, however, many people confine animals for their entertainment. Education is not as much valuable at zoos, and visitors would be much better getting knowledge off of walking along a wild side. Many wildlife facilities claim as if they have the best wildlife conservation when they don’t. Animals in captivity, suffer socially, psychologically, and physically due to many elements such as the lack of space, under stimulation, inappropriate environmental conditions, and abusive management.
Many facilities exaggerate the fact that they play and important role in wildlife conservation. Many laws fail to reach and acceptable level of animal welfare in which the needs of captive animals are satisfied such as social and biological. In particular, a controversial private zoo in central Alberta owned by Lynn Gustafson was closed down. The owner stated that it was closed down because he wasn’t able to afford the expenses. This zoo was open for twenty-five years and after those years it had to be closed down. However, the zoo had been subjected to several animal neglect allegations and complaints.

Animals caged life shows how they are deprived of the opportunity to develop and fulfill their needs and interests.
Zoos don’t bring another purpose for the visitors. They aren’t actors, spectacles to imprison and gawk at. They are kept chained or caged all for the sake of human “entertainment. ” For example, Mr. Laidlaw said, “I used to think zoos had a grander purpose, but for the most part, they’re entertainment centres. ” It is the demand for the entertainment that will always keep this business on going. Although laws could be helpful in banning and regulating certain practices. Many organizations are involved in the entertainment industry in many ways but they differ in their focus from companion animals, wild animals, etc.
Since, animals are used for entertainment purposes, zoos should be banned for not providing the right purpose for the visitors. To conclude with many issues lead to negative concerns about animals in the zoo. Since, the entertainment of animals, the unproven claims regarding safe wildlife conservation, and the education purpose that isn’t present in zoos, they should be shut down. In order to save the animals lives, one has to make compassion a practical ethic which is the very least someone could do for the animals. Is ones home on the stage or in their room where they belong?
