A. Imagine having one dominant monarch commanding what one shall do, eat, and make everyone pay high taxes. However, a Revolution occurs and the royal family and the search began to look for people who sided with the royal family were executed and the chaos in cities began. The goal of this was to make a new government with freedom and to accomplish this one would murder the royal family. This is how the two year period of the Reign of Terror was like in France during the French Revolution.
B. Precisely, were these extreme methods in the Reign of Terror the right way to solve France’s problems? C. e Reign of Terror in France was justified due to the three threats and methods that were used. D. First, the external threat involved many foreigners that invaded France. Next, the internal threat in France was to slaughter masses of traitors to keep the country stable. Lastly, the government responded to all this by making a legitimate law and smothering the royal family.
A. To begin with, France was extremely bombarded with outside forces that the Reign of Terror was the fastest way to solve the conflict and to make a new government. B. France was threatened by multiple foreign forces and lost land because of them. There were also people, called emigres, who supported the king and they moved to different countries to ally themselves with France’s foreign enemies. In the map provided it states (Doc. B) “emigres formed armies… French fought back and won” then France wanted to “punish the French emigres. ” This evidence portrays that it was vital to kill these foreigners because the more foreigners France killed then the armies invading France would get smaller. This means that it would be easier to win because of the weakened army and France did win against the attack because of this. On the other hand, if France never performed this brutal act, they possibly could have lost to the external threats and this would eventually make their country smaller and weaker.
C. Additionally, these foreign forces kept building up, as France tried to kill them all and in the map it states (Doc. B) “Nearly 10,000 French army officers had also moved to the Austrian- controlled Netherlands. ” As one can see, thousands of people betrayed France instead of supporting it. This illustrates that not many people were left to help France out in its poor state and more traitors kept attacking their own country making the situation worse. Thus, it was important to kill these people in order to keep France stable, and more balanced. D. To conclude, numerous people were switching nations making France weaker, hence, the extreme measures were vital to stop the chaos in order to stabilize the country.
A. Additionly, inside of France the conditions were beginning to look so desperate that the Reign of Terror was justified. B. One knows that when matters take more than a year to finish, then serious procedures must be taken. In a letter sent to a revolutionary government in Paris a local government is doing just that (Doc. D) “departmental advisor requests… a decree whereby the criminal court of Niort judges this case as the last resort. ” This letter suggests that the Revolution is so chaotic in there city that even their own government cannot handle it. As a result they request the right to be able to execute anyone inside of France that is possibly a traitor. In short, The Reign of Terror was justified because even internal threats governments wanted to take the Revolution to extreme measures and to stop it as quickly as possible.
C. Continuing with the internal threats in France there was another event happening in France as shown in the timeline provided (Doc. A) “April 1793Counterrevolutionary revolts break out in France. ” This quote implies that in order to stop all these revolts and to maintain peace the people who caused the revolts must be eliminated. D. Hence, eliminating the causes of these revolts were one of the methods used to bring back France’s strength and stability. For this reason the Reign of Terror was the ultimate way to stop the Revolution and create a new government.
A. Furthermore, when the government responds that they need help and starts executing its own leader’s one knows that the Reign of Terror was justified. B. Finally, a court of justice and almost a new government was put in place and a new law was established (Doc. E) “A careless word of criticism spoken against the government could put one in prison or worse. ” At last, the closing of the Reign of Terror is almost here and nobody can mess it up. Nevertheless, the government in response as stated form the quote reinforces a stringent law to keep France secure, and it is better to be safe than sorry. In the end, these actions helped France create a powerful new government.
C. Secondly, at the start of the Revolution there was a (Doc F) painting created that shows King Louis XVI being executed by the guillotine with thousands of soldiers watching. The fact that France’s own government and citizens were not rebelling or doing anything about the execution connotes that everyone is okay with killing the leader and the start of the Reign of Terror. D. In conclusion, the government responded quickly to the situation by starting the Reign of Terror and approving it, making it justified.
A. Imagine seeing a crimson substance flowing down the streets of France along with the heads of executed citizens. At least one knows that another traitor of France is off the list of people that could have caused harm to the country. B. the Reign of Terror was justified and it was the right way to create a new government. Thousands of not loyal French officers escaped the country, but then got tracked down and killed. Meanwhile, internal conflicts began to worsen and mass slaughtering of traitors needed to happen in order to keep stability.
Lastly, one knows the Reign of Terror is justified when all the army officers release their animosity by slaughtering the royal family. C. The Reign of Terror was vital in order to put France back on track. However, understanding that these extreme measures were not always necessary and sometimes futile, the Reign of Terror seemed more of a quicker way to solve the dilemma. In conclusion, without the Reign of Terror of happening France’s history would’ve been complete changed and possibly not on the world’s map today.
