The Toyota Company is a multinational automobile company formed in 1937. Toyota has its headquarters in Toyota city, Japan. Toyota currently owns 5 brands including Scion, Lexus, Daihatsu, Hino Motors, and Toyota Motor Corporation or TMC for short. Toyota has 3 main production plants which are located in Japan along with other 9 plants found throughout the world. Toyota’s method of operation aims to build up their competitiveness through quality control. To promote quality, they have put together 6 sigma programs which include driving out defects before mass production process occurs.

Japan is their primary market but they have developed the ability to sell through dealerships internationally as well.

Despite offering only two doors, the Crown Eight was very popular because it served as a reliable mode of transportation during the Japanese oil shortage of the 1930s. Toyota soon realized, though, that it would need to improve its initial design if it wished to compete in the growing market. Between 1936 and 1943 Toyota’s trucks grew increasingly popular throughout Japan due to their unique style and excellent durability. Toyota Motor Company was not yet an independent company – Toyota Industries Corporation shared ownership with Toyota Motor Company until 1950.
Toyota continued developing new techniques for production and assembly throughout World War II under the direction of Kiichiro Toyoda (the founder’s son). Toyota also had no problem securing supplies because steel mills had been destroyed by Allied bombings during WWII. As a result, Toyota quickly became one of Japan’s largest manufacturers (of military goods) during World War II. Toyota began supplying Toyota Motor Company with truck parts after the Toyota Motor Company was spun off as an independent company in 1947.
