Comparing French And Chinese Cinderella Stories Essay

Have you read any Cinderella stories rather than the one everyone knows? If not there are many other Cinderella story’s to read but the one everyone knows is the original one which is much alike to the France one. There are other versions like Mexico, German, Chinese, and Africa and many others more. Two that have some similarities and differences are the French and Chinese. In the France and Chinese Cinderella story a beautiful young girl suffers a lot and is very badly mistreated but at the end of the day she gets her happiness that she has been waiting for and lives happily ever after with her prince charming.

To begin with Cinderella has always been that girl mistreated very poorly but has never give up. Her stepmother begins to show her true colors after her and her father got married. “She employed her in the meanest work of the house” (Perraultt). Cinderella step mother was very mean and only cared about her real daughters in the French story. But in the Chinese story Yeh-Shen real mother died. And her father married someone else and her stepmother did not like Yeh-Shen so she mistreated her and killed Yeh-Shen’s fish which was her only friend she had. “She would also scoured the dishes, tables, etc. nd clean madam’s chamber” (Perraultt).

But her daughter’s slept in the finest rooms but Cinderella slept in a sorry garret on a wretched straw bed this was in the French Cinderella story. Now in the Chinese Yeh-Shen story she was also vey mistreated she had her rags and was given the worst jobs. Therefore even though Cinderella would always suffer in both of the stories and get the less value things. She still didn’t give up and kept going. Secondly there was a point where Cinderella received happiness, felt happy and had a good time. In the Chinese and French story Cinderella wasn’t allowed to go to the ball.

Cinderella stepmother in both stories were scared that they would love Cinderella more than they would love Cinderella stepsisters. “She promised her godmother to leave the ball before midnight and drove away scarily able to herself for joy” (Perraultt). But Cinderella in both stories was helped by her godmother to go to the ball. Cinderella had to be by 12 o’clock so nobody would notice that she went to the ball. With all this Cinderella was very happy to attend the ball with her beautiful gown and had a magnificence night. This is how in all Cinderella showed some of her happiness in both stories.

And how beautiful she looked at the ball. Thirdly Cinderella lives happily ever after with her prince charming. Cinderella leaving her golden slipper behind at the ball in both stories and her prince charming wanting to find her it was vey hard. The prince wanted to marry whoever the slipper fitted too because that young girl he had seen at the ball was so beautiful. Now one day he went too Cinderella home and Cinderella stepsisters tried it on but fit. “He had Cinderella sit down and putting the slipper to her foot, he found that it went on very easily fitting her as if it was made out of wax” (Perraultt).

In the Chinese version the prince sent someone to look for Cinderella as well. He had the slipper placed on display in the pavilion on the side of the road till one night Cinderella came and tried it on and the prince got her. From both stories the prince charming found to who fitted thee beautiful golden slipper and lived with Cinderella forever. Cinderella was very happy and was gone have an amazing time living with her prince charming. In conclusion, Cinderella went through so many obstacles that she had in both stories but at the end she lived happily ever after.

Cinderella was treated very horrible by her stepmother as well as her stepsisters but at the end of the day they realized that what they have done to Cinderella was very wrong and not right. Always remember to treat others the way you would want to be treated. In the French story Cinderella forgive her stepmother and stepsisters. But now in the Chinese story Yeh-Shen did not forgive her stepmother or her stepsisters for they treated her very wrong. They were never allowed to visit her and live in there cave till the day they died. Now Cinderella lived happily ever after for forever and ever with her prince charming.
