Cyberbullying Essay

Cyberbullying can happen in today’s society due to the latest addition of social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Cyberbullying is usually defined as an aggressive or hostile behavior occurring via electronic means between peers who are not current partners or spouses [1]. This type of bullying was a huge issue a couple decades back, but has been quickly decreasing. Cyberbullying can come from a lot of things, such as emails, texts, posts on social media websites…etc.

Cyberbullying is something that affects everyone in today’s society whether you are aware of it or not. Cyberbullying is an issue with many different types of people; it isn’t limited to any specific age group or race. Cyberbullying isn’t only the act of bullying someone through electronic messages; it can happen by spreading rumors about others online and creating groups with the same intention [2]. Cyber-victims are those who have experienced several acts of cyber-aggression within a year’s time frame (Anderson & Hinduja 2006).

Cyber-victims are more likely to report at least one suicide attempt in their lifetime, with Cyber-victims who have experienced the most online attacks being three times more likely than Cyber-non victims to have attempted suicide, according to data reported by Widyanto and Griffiths (2008) [3]. Cyberbullying also affects students who do not participate in social media at all. These students are often seen as “outcasts” within school.

Cyberbullying can be especially harmful for younger children since they cannot differentiate between what is real and what is fake when they are on the computer or phone. Because of this, young children might believe something that their peers write about them; this usually causes low self-esteem and depression amongst the child [4]. Cyberbullying has also been linked to several mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. Cyber-victims were found to be three times more likely than Cyber-non victims to report having an anxiety disorder in the past six months [3].

Cyberbullying is a huge problem with teenagers today due to the fact that they are constantly using social media or cell phones. Cyberbullying is most commonly seen among young adults, especially adolescents under the age of 18 [5]. Cyberbullying can cause serious psychological, emotional and even physical damages. These damages may range from loss of confidence and self-esteem issues all the way up to suicidal thoughts and actions, depending on how severe it becomes [6]. Cyberbullied children tend to struggle academically and experience a decline in grades.

Cyberbullying also increases the risk of depression and anxiety, which can lead to poor school performance and attendance [6]. Cyberbullying is extremely harmful to young children because they are not able to differentiate between what is real and what is fake. Cyberbullying can cause loss of self-esteem, confidence, social isolation, sadness, loneliness, anxiety and many other serious health problems such as depression. Cyberbullying can even result in suicide if it becomes severe enough [5].

Cyberbullying has become a huge problem within the past ten years. Cyberbullying is basically bullying someone by using technology such as cell phones, computers, social media sites on the Internet and just about anything else that you can think of that has to do with technology. This is not only on social networking sites but used for texting as well. Cyberbullying has become on of the biggest problems that teens face today along with peer pressure, depression and drug abuse. Cyberbullying itself is not an issue of power but more of lack of knowledge.

Cyberbullies are ignorant towards their actions because they don’t know any better than to bully people over computer screens or individual phones calls. Cyberbullying is something new so it makes sense for people to not know how to handle themselves. Cyberbullying is something that should be stopped as soon as possible so the younger generation can become more educated on this issue and even if it continues, at least they will have something to fall back on when they need help.

Cyberbullying has turned into an epidemic in today’s society and everyone needs to be aware of what is gong on around them. This generation really needs to learn the important things like bullying someone over a computer screen or phone call is just as bad as saying something face to face because one day this generation will be older and they will, too late, realize the difference between right and wrong . Stupid people still think cyberbullying is worse than real life bullying.

Cyberbullying is a form of bullying that occurs via electronic forms of contact such as cell phones, computers and social media sites. Cyberbullying affects the lives of millions, particularly in teens. Cyberbullying has become more widespread than ever before and the damage done through cyberbullying can be long-lasting and permanently scar someone’s life. Cyberbullying is becoming an epidemic because people are not educated about what it really is and how to handle it when they or someone they know becomes a victim .

Cyberbullying must be stopped immediately because its effects will carry on into adulthood if we don’t intervene now by providing more education on this topic for kids, teens and adults alike. at least then if worse comes to worse them and their children will have something to fall back on if they need help. Cyberbullying has become a big issue because people are not educated about it and how dangerous it truly is so now is the time to stop Cyberbullying before someone gets hurt worse than ever before.

Cyberbullying is bullying another person using electronic devices such as a computer, phone, or social media site. Cyberbullying may take place through texts, posts on social networking sites, emails, instant messaging, websites etc. Cyberbullying includes posting rumors online, embarrassing others by tagging them through photos of videos that were never meant to be posted or tagged for cyber-bullying. Cyberbullying can happen anywhere and to anyone. Cyberbullying is a very severe form of bullying that has been on the rise over the past few years.

Cyberbullying “is more frequent among young people who have had experience with traditional kinds of bullying,” according to a study done by Sameer Hinduja, Ph.D., an Internet safety expert at CyberCollege, and Justin W. Patchin, Ph.D., coauthor of “Bullying Beyond the Schoolyard: Preventing and Responding to Cyberbullying.” Cyberbullying was also found to be related to lower levels of personal contentment in life [1].
