Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is trying to turn Type One diabetes to Type None. JDRF was created to help people with type one diabetes (T1D). T1D comes out of nowhere and can be life threatening if not treated. “Symptoms of the disease can vary from person to person and include extreme thirst, frequent urination, drowsiness, sudden vision changes, an increased appetite, sudden weight loss, heavy breathing, sweet-smelling breath, and even unconsciousness. ” (“A Relentless”) Type one diabetes happen when the pancreas stops producing insulin, which is a hormone that allows the body to get energy from food.

People with T1D need to take insulin shots so that their body can get energy from food. JDRF’s three main parts are history, stories of how the organization has helped people, and how to help the organization. JDRF’s first main part is its history. “Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1. 3 billion to diabetes research, including more than $156 million in FY2008. ” (“Rating for”) It shows how much parents in the past, cared for their kids and how parents today still care about their kids.

The Juvenile Research Foundation (JDRF) provides more than 80 cents of every dollar to research and education about research,” (“How Can”) That 80 cents help people understand what is happening and it helps them take another step toward curing type one diabetes. “In the past decade, JDRF invested more than $16 million in diverse artificial pancreas research projects. ” (“World Diabetes”) The artificial pancreas research helps researchers work to make a device that will automatically read blood glucose levels and release insulin when needed. “JDRF has 96 locations in the U. S. th international affiliates in Australia, Denmark, The Netherlands, Canada, Israel, and United Kingdom. ” (“World Diabetes”) With different locations, maybe, researchers can find a cure faster.

“The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. ” (“Rating for”) Without their research, it might have taken longer to come as far as they have today. “JDRF funds research to deliver new treatments and therapies that make day-to-day life with T1D easier, safer, and healthier until complete prevention or a cure can be found. “World Diabetes”) JDRF tries to help the children’s lives easier so they can still do what they usually do. One of JDRF’s main parts is its history but the stories of the children and adults that it has helped, helped also. JDRF’s second main part is the stories of how the organization has helped people.

“The Walk to Cure Diabetes is a walkathon held in more than 200 locations throughout the year benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. ” (“How Can”) This walkathon can help JDRF take another step toward changing the future for anyone with T1D. “By becoming a member of JDRF you are helping to find a cure for diabetes. ” (“How Can”) Along the way you can meet new people, you can help spread awareness of T1D and JDRF, and you can help JDRF achieve their mission.
