In the fictional novel, The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins, a girl named Katniss has to fight for her life in the 74th annual Hunger Games. The book focused on Katniss volunteering to be in the Hunger Games and her journey to the arena. Also, it focused on her battling to win with her partner Peeta after a rule change allowing both to win. The three topics addressed in the exciting book are characterization, conflict, and themes.
To start, the author uses characterization to reveal a lot about the main character through her actions, but her thoughts give more of a look into why she makes the decisions she does. An example of this is, “Its such a joke! Peeta and I going along pretending to be friends !” (92). In the Hunger Games there are twenty-four contestants, two from each of twelve districts. The two from each district are a boy and a girl sent to an arena for a fight with only one victor. An example of her internal conflict is “I wonder if hes hoping that Peeta makes it as well. Gales not my boyfriend, but would he be, if I opened that door” (280)?
