Peer Influence On Why People Commit Crimes Essay

From reading the research scientists have made it is different to see all the different things in crimes. According to my own experience, the order of the ranking I had is first peer influence, drugs and alcohol, parental relations, education, heredity and brain activity, discouraging criminal activity, easy access, and finally hormones. In my own experience, the factor that causes the most crime would be Peer Influence. This is the most committed crime I have seen because nowadays in high school most teens seem to only focus on “fitting in”.

When they are pressured into doing things that they do not want to, they feel cool because they have done whatever per say drugs but they do not really realize what it is gonna do to them. Peer influence and Drugs and alcohol both kind of tie together because most people pressure their peers into doing drugs and alcohol. These would be the top 2 crimes that i have seen people commit. There is more of peer influence though so the second would be Drugs and Alcohol. Drugs and Alcohol is a common crime that has been committed.

Lots of people today have been driving under the influence and on the news there has been many reportings of crashes caused by drunk drivers. I know a friend of mine has passed away recently because of this cause. It is a big issue that needs to become aware to people. When people are usually under the influence, they commit more crimes so, drugs and alcohol is the most dangerous because it causes people to not think well enough for them to realize what they are actually doing.

Criminologists estimate that alcohol or drug use by the attacker is behind 30 to 50 percent of violent crime, such as murder, sexual assault, and robbery. ” This proves that people commit more than one crime while committing a crime itself. Parental relations would be the next ranked because if people grow up without love and care, they would want to find some way to get it and so they turn to bad decisions. If a kid were to be abused growing up they would want to try and turn to something else for the attention that they want.

I have had friends who have gone through times in which their parents fight at home and when this happens they come to school usually upset and take their anger out other people and turn to violence thus creating the “cycle of violence”. I believe that people that grow up without love and support slowly begin to progress this strong anger each day because they might see people around them having what they have always wanted. Having this said this person would probably do anything to get that attention and would most likely turn to a crime.

Parental relations is very important, I grew up with both my parents but many of my friend’s parents live separately. Education is one of the things tied to crime. When people grow up without having the proper education of knowing from right and wrong they would most likely do the wrong things not knowing it is wrong. Education can go many ways as well as seeing someone beat someone and you think it’s okay because they are doing so you begin to do it thinking it is alright when it is not. This also comes from the person’s background, they can grow up really poor and probably attempt to steal thinking it is gonna benefit them at the end.

If they were to grow up with a good education they would be able to get a well payed job. But if someone were to grow up with a poor education, they would probably not get a high likely chance of getting a good job. The next in the ranking would be Heredity and brain activity. It is interesting to read that criminals are the most risked because they do not really bother to care or even think of the consequences. This causes for them to do even more criminal activity because they would think that the outcome of their actions would not be as bad.

It is shown that most criminals sually tend have greater aggression because of the effects of the neurochemicals in their brain. In a dangerous situation, a criminal would have less brain reaction than most people. Discouraging the choice of crime would be the next ranking. I believe that criminals tend to do crimes and not be such at risk because if they were to hire a good lawyer they would be able to get out of it. This kind of proves the scientific explanations of heredity and brain activity. This is because at the moment they do not think as much when they are committing a crime so they just do it.

I feel that it is really easy for people to purchase firearms. People nowadays can get weapons really easy. If they were to be more secure about who buys weapons and such there would probably less criminal activity. The last of the ranking would be hormones. I feel as if hormones is not as big of an issue as the others. People should still have control over their actions and shouldn’t be completely controlled by hormones since they are still willfully committing crimes, which does not increase the amount of crimes by much.
