Soccer season is about to start. This is Wally’s favorite time of year. Wally plays soccer professionally for FC Barcelona. He just joined the team after a great first season with Ajax. As Wally heads out to his first practice, he can’t wait to meet his teammates! As Wally gets closer to Camp Nou he gets more eager to play. After what feels like hours he finally makes it to the stadium. Once Wally walks into the training room his new team greets him. He gets tired of saying “it’s nice to meet you, I’ve admired your soccer skills for years” so many times.
He meets his fellow winger Azpilicueta who also has only been playing professionally for a year. Then he meets the team striker Diego. Azpilicueta is a right winger he has dirty blonde hair and has been playing soccer for his whole life. Diego is the striker but he suffers from asthma so it is hard for him to play a full game. Wally walks out to training knowing his rival Ronaldo will be playing him in the next match! Ronaldo and Wally have been playing the same position against one another for the last 10 years. Wally trains with the team. He works hard. He makes friends.
He earns his spot as a left winger. They finally start playing like a team, and now the game is a day away. It’s the big day. The day Wally gets to face his rival Ronaldo. Ronaldo is a boy with dark hair that is spiked. He is very bossy and rude and he thinks that everything he wants he will get. Wally walks in the locker room and gets ready for the game. As he is getting his jersey on he talks to Diego and Azpilicueta about Ronaldo. “Guys, Ronaldo is a very aggressive player. I want you to be aware that he can also play dirty. ”
Diego replies “I know Wally, I will keep my eyes open. Azpilicueta chimes in with “we have worked hard, we can stay one step ahead of his dirty ways. ” Wally and his attack force walk out on the field to get warmed up for the game. Wally helps Kevin “The Unbeatable” warm up in goal. Kevin is the goalie. He is so good they they call him the uneatable. Kevin tease Wally “come on newbie, show me what you got”. Wally answers with a kick to the upper left corner. They both laugh. As the fans come into Camp Nou Wally gets a little nervous because he knows the fans are relying on him. The game starts, Real Madrid gets the kick-off because FC Barcelona are at their home stadium.
As the announcer yells for the game to start the crowd cheers. The stadium erupts into the anthem: “Tot el camp es un clam som la gent blaugrana Tant se val d’on venim si del sud o del nord ara estem d’acord, ara estem d’acord, una bandera ens agermana. Blaugrana al vent un crit valent tenim un nom el sap tothom: Barca, Barca, Baaarca! Jugadors, seguidors, tots units fem forca. Son molt anys plens d’afanys, son molts gols que hem cridati s’ha demostrat, i s’ha demostrat, que mai ningu no ens podra torcer.
Blaugrana al vent un crit valent tenim un nom el sap tothom: Barca, Barca, Baaarca! Wally cannot believe how amazing it is to hear this anthem being sung by a stadium full of fans. Ronaldo gets the ball from his teammate and starts dribbling it down the left side where Wally is. Wally see’s Ronaldo getting closer he doesn’t rush forward in case Ronaldo gets past him. Ronaldo comes closer Wally goes in to get the ball before Ronaldo tries to rainbow it over Wally but he gets there before Ronaldo can. Wally taking the ball from Ronaldo and is now running up the field but all of a sudden Ronaldo slides in and knocks Wally off his feet.
When he goes down Wally hears Ronaldo whisper “welcome to FC Barcelona Wally”. The Referee gives Ronaldo his first warning awarding Wally with a free kick. Wally gets ready to take the free kick. He quickly thinks about all the times Ronaldo has been mean to him. He shouts “take that Ronaldo! ” He channels that energy, he kicks the ball, the ball goes in, and the first goal is scored. The Ref Mario blew his whistle for the end of the half The second half of the game is dominated by FC Barcelona the stadium is going wild. Wally got the ball early and as he moved up field, he heard Ronaldo in the distance “Wally is such a kid.
The next time Wally got the ball, he passed it to Diego and Ronaldo chuckled ” you’re so lucky. ” The third time he got the ball he made a clean pass to Azpilicueta, Ronaldo said “you’re scared of me because I’m too aggressive. ” The referee whistle blew for the end of the game. FC Barcelona wins the game 1-0. Wally walks out of the Stadium to head home only to see Ronaldo in the parking lot. Ronaldo goes up to Wally and says “you only won because my team wouldn’t give the ball to me” Wally quickly replied with “that’s not true my team is just much better than yours. ” Then all of a sudden they break into a fist fight.
The next thing they know, they get arrested. They end up in the same holding cell in the Barcelona city prison. Photographers and news reporters are trying to get into the prison to take their picture and get the story. The two soccer players are quiet for some time. Finally, Wally looks up and asks Ronaldo a question “Ronaldo, why are you so mean and so competitive? ” he continues with “we are all living our dream here. Playing professional soccer for the best teams in the world. You are miserable. You are dragging me down with you. I just want to play the best game I can each and every time.
Why don’t you? Ronaldo starts to sputter and stammer a reply. He finally gets out “I do not know how you handle the pressure from the team, the fans, and yourself. And you are so happy about it all. You are never in the press for bad behavior, well, except for now, and you seemingly disappear when we get our two month break. I think it just makes me really angry, to see you play so well and handle the pressure. ” Wally listens to what Ronaldo is saying. He comes up with a plan. “Hey Ronaldo, let’s try to get some sleep tonight. When we get out of here tomorrow, we have to return to our teams and face the consequences of our actions.
And don’t forget about the press. Let’s make a plan to stay in touch this season, we will play each other again after all. Then, when we get our break, I’ll take you to my special training facility in the countryside. We can work with some of the best specialists in the field of sports psychology and you too can learn how to stay focused. But most importantly, remember that you love the game of soccer. ” Ronaldo thinks that is a pretty good idea. He says to Wally, “I do not know why you are being so nice and so generous.
