The Chicken Shamen: A Short Story Essay

I was alerted with every movement and sound I was feeling in my surroundings. My heart raced like living was non existent and I was gonna fall to my fate. The telephone made all of my questions into a living disaster as I asked myself who could this mad man be on the other line. As my hand shook to touch the object I slowly lifted I heard nothing just the sound of humming. I could feel someone’s existence right outside of this house | knew karma had come back to remind me of what happened that exact night. I knew it couldn’t have been me, I was a victim just like the rest of them.

Then the knocks grew louder as they rustled obnoxiously on my whole house. I couldn’t stand the pain no longer. The thoughts of what had happened last time shivered through my whole body. This couldn’t be a repeat of my past. The door banged and the sound kept ringing through my ears. I couldn’t breath or move at this instant moment I had no clue what to do. The next thing I knew my life had drifted into darkness. My last life on Earth was the riot outside of my house. A stranger was going to come into my home and bring back the same memories. Now I lay lifeless and stare into my soulless eyes that lay at my own murder crime scene.

I was now there next case. This time I would not be guilty and everything will haunt them. This time we would find G… Ro… *SCREAMS* *splat* *splat* *boom* It was five years before when it all happened. It was any ordinary day walking down the gravel road to Lidke Mill. The trees springed with early spring blossomed flowers. It was a whole new year. I began to sprint with no care just thinking about how Kawaii-Chan was. I knew her family had just moved by Lidke Mill and was looking for farming business, but unfortunately it had been hard lately for them to do that since her father had been diagnosed with cancer.

So every day to show my thoughtfulness to them, I brought them a whole basket of biscuits each week. Everytime I did there smiles stretched all the way across their faces excited to eat the delicious biscuits that were fresh from our farm. Then they would always offer me to stay which always of course I did cause I wanted to catch up with them on how they were doing. Today they were doing great. So about after an hour or so of talking it was time for me to pick up water from the lake. As walked down the hill to the lake I took my bucket hand and hand and gently the water seeped into the bucket.

Now I slowly dragged the bucket all the way home exhausted with each step| still felt like everything still felt as great as ever. The sun shined upon the glistening water in my bucket and the birds chirped in the new beginning of the seasons. As I got to my front steps slowly put down the bucket with grace to open the door. As | heard silence walking in I yelled “Mama Papa are you home”? No one answered so I assumed they went to go milk the cows since we had been low on milk. I put the water in the kitchen sink and dumped ice in the bucket and covered it with a towel.

Then I ran to my room to go grab my muddy boots to see what my parents were up to now. They weren’t always so clever as made track that it was okay with what they were doing. As I ran down the wooden stairs outside I saw the cows in the far distance but heard no one. Just to make sure that I was not seeing things wrong, I sprinted all the way over to the first cow | seen but no one. I decided then to run to the chicken coop. No one. Then I got worried sick about where my parents could be. After awhile of walking back and forth and thinking I heard voices.

Then there they were they just got back from town and look what they brought milk and eggs. I was so foolish of thinking they were lost. I ran over and helped them bring in the items. As we were finished up we decided to make some homemade cookies with our new milk. As we got done mixing the batter and placing the perfect round cookies into the oven ! slowly watched them rise with grace. The kitchen filled with the smell of delightfulness and once the cookies were rose and cooked with sweet delight, we devoured them in seconds and chugged our milk like there was no tomorrow. We saved a couple as another treat for Kawaii-Chan.

So after all that wacky cookie munching I was exhausted and ended up passing out on the couch. The next morning was too early. The crazy annoying chickens started to burst with sounds and rustled through the coop at four in the morning. So I awaken from my passing out earlier that night and had to just deal with all the noises this morning. At first it was really hard not to just go outside and tape duck tape on to their beaks. So I tried going to the basement, but I could still hear them all the way down there. So I decided to go fix the situation they were having in the coop.

When I went there they were, all creating up a storm about nothing. So I left to go back on the couch to sleep once again. I managed to get about a nap, then they went viral once again. This kept happening until seven in the morning and I was exhausted. So I went up into my room and went back to sleep like there was no tomorrow. I eventually, finally awoke to a graceful smell that appeared to be knocking on my door. So I smiled with happiness and felt like I was floating all the way down to the kitchen and there lay an awesome meal of eggs and pancakes just for me.

After I delightfully consumed an awesome meall began to take the cookies we had leftover from last night down to Kawaii-Chan’s house. As I gracefully skipped toward them, began to stop. I gasped in still motion to something I wouldn’t forget. The blossomed trees were gone and they left behind the old cut up stumps. The branches were spilled everywhere with no more flowers not even buds. The bareness was no good attraction to the land, especially what lay in the middle of all the disgrace. There was a dead chicken that looked exactly like one of mine with a knife in the throat there laid a note.

The note reads beware like this was some sort of note you may find on Halloween. Sol began to sprint to Kawaii-Chan’s house with the pressure of breathing began to quickly erupt harder than ever before. Without even bothering to knock I put down the cookies and I looked up at all their faces then I seen the sorrow look in their faces and slowly began to sit down and asked why they were sad. Then Kawaii-Chan told me her father passed last night. I started to feel sorrow and gave her the basket. Then she dropped it and told me something I was most astonished to hear. Her father didn’t die because of cancer.

I asked her then what did he die of not trying to be rude. We don’t know there was just blood everywhere and he was gone. I began to cry and feeling like it was all my fault. I promised her I would find whoever had done this. She said I didn’t have too, but I felt like it was my mission and I couldn’t let her down and her father. Then she asked was there something you have to tell me cause you came in like the world was ending she laughed a little. Then I didn’t say anything. She hugged me and told me I should get going. I quickly sprinted out the door with all the hope I had left.

I knew something mysterious was here to hurt me, but I knew | couldn’t give up. The ghost children said keep reading oh please don’t stop reading. As I paused I told them it was time for the ghost children’s bed time. I calmly walked downstairs and there was Vivian’s body and the chicken that had been killed in the story. Also there on our table there was KawaiiChans father. He was strapped in pain and said you did this | can’t believe it was a ghost all along. Everyday I looked at my ghost children in the mirror I knew they would be able to take my place. *splat* *splat* *boom*
