The Importance Of Disease In Rwanda Essay

Have you ever really taken the time and think about what some people are going through in this world. There are many problems that are all important, one of which is the lack of supplies people have for disease. Many countries suffer with diseases that are not a problem in the United States because unlike us other countries do not have medications and equipment to help them keep dangerous diseases away. Rwanda is a place that is dealing with this problem, many people are very sick and some are even dying. Some of the main disease are tuberculosis, cholera, and malaria.

We need to find a way for Rwanda to get equipment they need to fight these diseases, and keep this away. Suppling Rwanda with needed equipment will hopefully improved the health of people and keep them from getting the diseases again. The Problem According to “CDC in Rwanda” from cdc. gov maleria, tuberculosis and cholera are part of the top diseases in Rwanda. Since 2010 Rwanda has had an outbreak with cholera, tuberculosis, and malaria (CDC in Rwanda p. 2). This is a big issue in Rwanda, many children and men and women are being affected.

The life expectancy is about 56 to 59 years old for men and women (CDC in Rwanda p. 2). The life expectancy for men and women in the united states is about 78 years old, 20 years is a big difference. Researchers and doctors have helped with this problem but something else needs to be done because the problem is still there. Diseases Malaria is a diseases spread by female anopheles mosquito. Malaria goes through the blood and can be spread person to person. Some of the symptoms is a fever, headache, and vomiting. In Sonia Shah’s article, “THE FEVER: How Malaria Has

Ruled Humankind for 500,000 Years” from infohio. org, she mentions that humans have been fight Malaria for a long time. Standing water and warm temperatures makes a great place for female anopheles mosquitoes to reproduce and breed. Africa has a very warm climate which causes the disease rate to go up significantly (Shah p. 1). According to John Hopkins article” About Malaria” from the John Hopkins Malaria Research Institute, there are about 300 to 500 cases of malaria a year, 90 percent of which occurs in africa. Rwanda alone has 15. 1 percent of their populating that has malaria (CDC in Rwanda p. ).

Malaria is Rwanda’s number one cause of death. Tuberculosis is another bad diseases in Rwanda. Tuberculosis is an infectious lung disease that is spread through the air. Symptoms of tuberculosis include coughing, night sweats, weight loss, chest pains, and difficulty breathing. Tuberculosis is the number seven cause of deaths in Rwanda, with 3. 8 percent of deaths from it (CDC in Rwanda p. 1). Cholera is another disease that has been spreading since 2012 in Rwanda. Cholera is caused by drinking or eating food that has the bacteria vibrio cholerae in it.

This disease causes watery diarrhea and can be fatal. Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia article “Cholera” from infohio. org, explains that the average death rate from cholera is 50 percent. If the disease is caught in time, with effective treatment the death rate decreases all the way down to percent (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia 6th edition). The problem is places like Rwanda cannot afford the treatment. Proposal Solution One solution that would tremendously help Rwanda would be supplying them with the equipment they need to help prevent them from getting the diseases.

Supplying them with the equipment would not cure the diseases that the people have, but it would make it easier for them to be cured. Having the equipment would prevent them from getting diseases after the doctor has treated them. When you are always around the main cause of something it will be nearly impossible to get rid of it. This equipment will keep people from always being around the diseases and therefore keep them healthier, increasing their health and life expectancy.

How Solution Will Work Now for the big question, “How do you plan on getting all of this equipment to Rwanda? I plan on doing this by setting up a website that allows people to donate items. The website will have a place where someone will go in and select an item they want to send over to Rwanda and when they pay for it the order will be sent over. There will be pop up ads places that will let people know about the website and the importance of it. Some of the equipment that will be offered to send over are N95 respirator masks, Mosquito zappers and nets to keep them away, supply kits, and even some medications like doxycycline that is used to treat many diseases.

There are a lot of people on commercials and other places who ask people to send in money. For example, pet commercials and commercials with sick kids that ask for someone to send in 19 dollars a month to help a child. The difference between that kind of donation and the one I plan to offer is that when people send in money for mine they will no what they are sending in. Also people can donate the amount of money they want for that item, they do not have to worry about paying 19 dollars a month and not knowing for sure what it is being used for. That is what makes my method better.
