Walter Elias “Walt” Disney was born December 5, 1901, in Hermosa, Illinois. He and Roy his brother, co-founder Walt Disney Productions, it became one of the best-known motionpicture companies in the world. Disney created the cartoon character Mickey Mouse, which became the world’s oldest and most famous vermin in the world. Walt Disney was an extremely creative’ person, who took his talents, developed many movies, characters, and two theme parks for all ages to enjoy. Walt Disney’s father was Elias Disney, an Irish Canadian, and mother, flora call Disney a German American.
Disney is one of the five children, four boys and one girl. Disney attended McKinley High School in Chicago, where he took drawing and photography classes. Disney was also very good at contributing cartoonist for the school paper. December 15, 1966, at the age 65 Disney died with lung cancer. According to (Waltbeforemickey 1), “In 1928, Disney created the character Mickey Mouse in the silent film Plane Crazy, that same year Mickey appeared in the film, Steamboat Willie, Disney immediately became famous; Steamboat Willie was his first attempt to use his own voice for Mickey Mouse.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was Disney’s first feature-length cartoon, which took total of three years to complete. It soon became the highest grossing film of all time, a record it held until the famous Gone with the Wind. In 1951, Disney added live-action movies including Treasure Island, while still producing such animated classics as Alice in Wonderland (1951) and Peter Pan (1953). Mickey Mouse is one of the world’s oldest and most famous vermin in the world. Mickey originally appeared in silent cartoons, but by the end of 1928, he appeared in the cartoon Steamboat Willie.
Mickey would only whistle and make other noises in the short but did not start speaking until 1929. Mickey’s first line in his show was “hot dog, hot dog! ” Mickey continued to get more and more legendary throughout the years crowding into feature films, video games and tons of games and toys. He first appeared in color in 1935, in the cartoon “The Band Concert. ” Walt Disney had a magnificent vison one day. He imagined a place where families could come together and have fun. Walt’s original plans for the park were on 8 acres next to the Burbanic Studios where everyone could go relax.
World War II ended up pushing those plans on hold, but he had enough time to come up with new ideas and creations for his “Magical Park. ” He soon accepted that 8 acres would not be enough for what he had planned for his Magical Park. He finally got a survey in 1953 for a 100-acre site, outside of Los Angeles. Disney stated, “I have planned to build rivers, waterfalls, and mountains; I would have flying elephants and giant teacups; a fairy-tail castle, moon-rockets, and a scenic railway; all inside a magic kingdom I would soon call “Disneyland”.
The day Disneyland was apparently supposed to open was 12 months after the construction on July 21, 1954. Walt’s life would never be the same after the wonderful day that Disneyland opened. Disneyland would eventually stretch from San Diego to Vancouver. Walt wanted to relieve the typical turn of the century city Main Street, He stated, “For those of us who remembered the carefree time it recreates, Main Street will bring back happy memories.
For younger visitors, it is an adventure in turning back the calendar to the days of Grandfathers Youth. Walt Disney planned to endure his dream farther, in a “far-off region of the world known as “Adventureland. ” Walt said, “To create a land that would make this dream reality, we pictured ourselves far from civilization, in the remotes jungles of Asia and Africa. ” Walt made many lands including; Frontierland, which was made to relive the pioneer days of the American frontier, Fantasyland Walt said, “Was created to “make dreams come true” from the lyrics “when you wish upon a star,” fantasyland would have a large Sleeping Beauty Castle and a fantasy village, and Tomorrowland, was created as a look at the “marvels of the future”.
Walt and his employees worked around the clock to get ready for the opening day. Walt said “The magic little park” was really a $17,000,000 “Magic Kingdom”. Walt Disney’s dream had finally came true and Disneyland was ready to open. Stated by Walt Disney, “opening day was a day to remember. ” Six thousand invitations to the grand opening had been mailed. By midafternoon over 28,000 ticket holders were storming the magic kingdom. Disney was 53 when the dedication of Disneyland happened; it was the most memorable ceremony.
Walt said, “I could look around and see the fulfilment of my hopes, dreams, and ambitions in the form of spectacular kingdom. ” On Disneyland’s opening day, a 15 day hat wave raised temperatures up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. It was so bad that the asphalt would trap high-heeled shoes, because it was so warm. The heat wave continued after the opening day, almost taking out the park. Beside the awful opening day conditions, by 10 years 50 million visitors had entered the gates of the magic kingdom.
In Walt Disney’s 65 years, he succeeded by moving black and white novelty to highly genre that would make Oscar winning feature films. Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy were instantly recognizable global icons of Walt Disney. Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966, from lung cancer. He left Disneyland and all his movies, but even though he was not able to see how his park and company grew into the 21st century, his legacy still lives on today. Disney will always be with Disneyland and the entire world.
