Essay on Personal Narrative: The Day I Got Adapted

The Day I Got Adapted “There she is! ” My mom said so exited. “She is so cute! ” Says my dad. “She looks like a boy. ” My brother Nick says. I sat there in my caregiver’s arms in my little yellow outfit. My mom came over and picked me up and hugged me and kissed me. Then My dad swooped me up and hugged me and he swung me around. My brothers lit up like a flashlight when they first saw me. Both of my brothers were so excited to get a new baby sister! **Chongqing** We stayed at the White Swan Hotel in Guangzhou, China.

At the White Swan Hotel when I got there was a whole bunch of goodies such as food, clothes, and toys. When I first got back to the hotel I cried because i didn’t know where I was and who I was with. When my parents got me my Nana and Papa came too because they always wanted to go China. when I first saw my Papa I cried because he was wearing a hat like fisherman wore and nobody wore a hat like that in China. They were all woven hats. Once I got used to where I was I stopped crying. Then my mom put this cream on my face under my eyes because I had scabies.

Scabies is kind of like lice but it doesn’t mainly get in you head. The way you get scabies is if you have a cut and another person has it then it jumps on you and they get like inside you body. The day after my parents got me we took pictures with 6 other girls that other parents adapted. When the photographer was trying to take a picture of all of us we were all squirming like fish in the sea. On the third day we went to the Beijing zoo. We saw a bunch of animals such as pandas, zebras, and hippos. I especially liked the pandas says my mom.

On the fourth day of our adventure me, my mom, dad, both of my brothers, and my Nana and Papa along with our tour guide went to a farm out in the country part of Beijing, China. When we pulled up there were a bunch of people working out in the fields picking cotton and wheat. When we took a tour of the farm there were a bunch of bugs flying around. When we got to the house part the floors were made of mud and dirt and there were only 2 rooms in the whole entire house. When we first walked in we saw a lady weaving baskets and her name was Lily there was also another lady boiling water they could drink it, and her name was megan.

The reason they boiled water was because the water wasn’t safe to drink over there because it was full with germs. The first room is when you first walk in and that is where the kitchen was. There was also a bed for the parents and a fireplace. In the second room there was a cow! the cow is their most prized possession because it gave them money and milk. The way it gave them money was because they sold the milk to other people at the market. There was also a little loft for their 2 kids to sleep. their two sons slept in the same bed because the family didn’t have much money and that is all they could afford.

As we were leaving the house my dad asked the tour guide if he could ask the tour guide if he could ask the lady to weave ten large baskets, twenty medium baskets, and twenty-five small baskets. So the tour guide did and the lady said “yes. ” And then my dad said make sure to include that he will pay her for the baskets. So the next morning was the end of our adventure. We got up and had breakfast and then took a bus to the airport. My parents were wondering if the lady named Lily would get the baskets to us on time before we left the country to go back home.

And there she was riding in a cab with the window down and the baskets out the window tied down with a string. So my dad asked the lady how much she wanted for the baskets and she said 100 yuans. But over here it is like sixteen dollars. So the lady was so happy and so grateful for the money. So when we boarded the plane we had more boxes than my family came with, so we had to pay extra for the extra luggage. I was curious where we were. I was looking out the windows of the airplane and I was touching everything around me.

When we got to the airport in Kansas City my other grandparents were waiting there. It was my mom’s parents. So then we got home. When we drove up there were my parents friends and almost all of my neighbors were there too. When I got to my room my parents did for me with yellow, pink, and purple plaid wallpaper and yellow paint my mom put me in my crib and I jumped up and down with a smile on my face. After all the excitement with everybody there celebrating my adoption my parents said to George and Karen “Bye, thank you for coming. ” “Your welcome! ” says Karen. Then I slowly dozed off to sleep.
