Interview Reflection Paper

The date of the interview that I had to do was on April 25, 2015. The person that I had decided to interview was my little sister named Meagan. She currently works at McDonald’s as a server. While interviewing her, we talked about many things that goes on behind the scenes at McDonald’s. We talked about all the hours that someone is capable of having and how much you can make doing overtime there. We also discussed the salary, when someone is needed to fill a position because they needed someone right then, what the different positions that someone can have at McDonald’s, and the uniform that they have to wear.

I learned many things about professional behavior and ethics in a professional work setting. One of the things that I had learned was that everyone has to respect everyone else to make the place a much better environment to be in and around. I learned that you have to be honest, especially since you are constantly handling money and the customers all the time while working. You have to keep a cool head and be patient or you may be terminated if you cannot stay calm under the pressure of the job. Interview notes The professional behavior in the workplace is to always remain calm.

You cannot just start yelling at a customer or even another employee. Saying bad things about someone else is considered unprofessional. You have to always have respect for the equipment and not show up late. You have to give them enough time if you are calling off for the company to be able to find a replacement for your shift. The professional attire you are to wear is a red, clean tee shirt with the company’s logo on it or you could wear the sweater that they provide you, black pants that are not jeans, a black belt to go on your pants even if they fit you, you have to have one, a hat that they provide, and no-skid black shoes.

You are to also have your hair, if it is long, tied in a clean and tight ponytail. You are not to show any tattoos and you are only allowed to have one set of earrings that are in the lobe of the ears. No other piercings are permitted and you are only allowed to have natural colored hair. McDonald’s is a place that works in teams that they call the crew. It takes evelyone to be able to keep the place running smoothly. Everyone from the front counter to the person working the drive-thru windows, have to function as a team to make sure that they get all of the orders correct.

When someone needs extra help, another person would step up and help that person out. That statement is true, especially when it gets busy for the lunch rush. The people working at McDonald’s are expected to always give good customer service. They are not supposed to mouth off to the customers or to the people that they work for. They are expected to be polite even if they do not really like the person that they are dealing with. When there happens to be a problem in the workplace, the manager is the one that is supposed to help solve the problem and prevent any conflict from arising.

Even if it is between a customer and an employee. They would try to settle it as quickly as possible and with as little commotion as possible. If it is between two employees, the manager will call them into his/her office to resolve the problem before it escalates further. They are always trying to prevent problems from occurring but sometimes it still happens. They are to be civilized when dealing with problems so that they can resolve it and make sure that it doesn’t happen again. When asked about any ethical issues that McDonald’s have, she told me about it being on their website.

According to McDonald’s, “Antimicrobial use in food animals is an issue that impacts people and animals” (2015). We have agreed in the United States that antibiotics have important benefits and they believe that a few changes will help in the reduction of their everyday use. According to McDonald’s, “We are committing to use chicken that is not raised with antibiotics important to human medicine” (2015). For over two years, they have been working very closely with the farmers, whom they get their chicken from.

It will hopefully be able to work in March 2017 in the United States for reducing the antibiotics that are going into the chickens. McDonald’s virtual identity is slowly increasing. They have been over the last 60 years, slowly losing money because they have not had a way to keep up with the way technology has improved. According to “The Week”, if they have any hope of a turnaround, “it will incorporate more components from the fast-casual playbook, from pay policy to food quality” (2015).

McDonald’s confidentiality is that they are to maintain the fact of the cost of things and other numbers be kept between the owners of the company or franchise. McDonald’s makes its employees sign a confidentiality contract before they are hired into the workplace. Network Reflection (Appendix 2): The name of the professional organization that I contacted was the Michigan Humane Society. They were currently working on the event called “Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo”. The Michigan Humane Society is using this event to be able to get people to come to the zoo so that they can adopt a new pet.

They are always putting on events so that people can come and adopt a pet that they see and be able to take the animal home with them. The name of the individual at the professional organization that I had contacted was Ryan McTigue. He is the public relations coordinator for the Michigan Humane Society. The date that I had contacted him was on May 11, 2015. I found out that they are doing many events to help in the adoption process. They are constantly putting on events just for that sole purpose. We discussed many of the events that they sponsor and are part of.

One of the things that was discussed is the pet adoptions that is held at PetSmart. The way that we talked is via email. It made it easier than to have to go to the Michigan Humane Society to be able to get the answers that I needed. The people who work for the Michigan Humane Society are people who love their jobs. They love working to get the pets adopted so that they have a loving home to go to. Ryan said that the event “Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo” is an event that is to help get the rescue animals adopted and that the family can have fun at the zoo all at the same time.

The professional behavior in the workplace is that they help each other when it is needed. They are always there for the animals and for their co-workers. The behavior is one of respect for the people and the animals around them. They want to be able to get every dog and cat adopted. The attire that they have to wear is a tee shirt that has the logo and nice khakis. They are not to come to work wearing jeans because it just is not professional and they do not want a potential client to see them dressed that way.

They are to make sure that they have clean shoes and they are not really supposed to show tattoos or piercings. They are constantly working in teams. They are always working with the public at the many events that they host. When they are at the different events, they have more than one person so that if someone is interested in adopting an animal, they are able to have the other person help with the adoption. Teamwork is an important part of their organization because if they did not have it, then they would not be able to do their jobs to the best of their ability.

The Michigan Humane Society is a team that works real close with the public so that they can get evely animal that comes to them, adopted into a good home that will be their forever home. They have excellent customer service. Without good customer service, then no one would come to the events that they put on for the goal of getting every animal a good home. They are friendly when they answer the phone and they always call people back as soon as they can when someone leaves a message for someone in the office. They are also good at sending emails back to the sender with a response within good timing.

They are great with the people who show up at the different events because without the respect that they show, people will go somewhere different to get the pet that they want. They show that they care and are there if you have any questions about anything. Their problem solving and conflict management skills show when people try to argue with the people who work for the Michigan Humane Society. There are people who would try to start arguments with the employees because of something stupid, like them having to take the pet back that they had just purchased.

They try to handle all of their problems with professionalism to the best of their ability. There really is not any problems that arises between the employees that work for the organization. They are also there to stop the people who are being cruel to the animals by taking away the animals so that they can go to a loving home. They are quick to solve any problem that comes up within the organization. The Michigan Humane Society has had some ethical issues in the past. One of the issues that they have is when they have to turn away some of the pets that are given to them or they have to euthanize some of them.

According to PETA, “When “no-kill” animal shelters and rescue groups are filled to capacity, which is almost always, they are left with two options: turn away more animals than they take in or warehouse animals, often in substandard, filthy, and severely crowded conditions, for weeks, months, or even years on end” (2015). Just too many animals are being given to the humane society because people like to buy a pet for Christmas and then they do not want it anymore. The Michigan Humane Society is a place that uses several social media sites to promote their organization and the events that they are involved in.

They have Facebook and Twitter accounts that they use to get people to want to adopt an animal. They use the media to help also get the word out to the public, especially when they are holding an event that will help the animals be adopted. The news is another media that they call upon to get the public’s attention. They send out newsletters to the public who have adopted an animal from their organization so that the owners of those animals will be able to learn more about the organization in which they have helped. They are big on confidentiality when it comes to customer information.

They are not to give out any of the information about the people who have adopted an animal because it is not permitted. They believe that any information that they obtain from you is confidential and not to be released without your permission. When someone calls on a person who either is mistreating an animal or does not really watch his or her pet, the humane society is not to give out the information about the person who had called on that person. They keep things confidential and they never release any information concerning any case that they look into.
