Personal Narrative: My Family Car Essay

Our family car was a very reliable bronze Nissan Murano, this car had been part of the family for at least 5 years, it had taken us to Mcdonald’s trillions of times. However much we loved this car for it’s design, it would not save us from what was in our fates on that particular day. My mom, brother and I were on our way to one of my friend’s house and he lives approximately 15 minutes out of California, Missouri if you take the highway. We were driving approximately sixty miles per hour and we just about to turn onto my friend’s road.

We had been hysterically mocking unintelligent politicians that we had seen on the news the previous day, when out of my peripheral line of sight | caught a glimpse of an unidentifiable carcass in the middle of the lane we were in. “MOM! LOOK OUT. “| screamed at my mom since she had not spotted it due to being on a curve and I could see it better than she could, with almost superhuman reaction time my mother swerved to miss it. She successfully evaded the decomposing corpse, but we ramp off the side of the small cliff we were on. We fortunately crashed into a mound of sand.

Thankfully the car combined with the cushioning of the sand allowed us to escape the accident unharmed. When the Impact had subsided, both my mom and I immediately checked if my younger brother was hurt. Thankfully he was fine with only a bit of scratches from the tumbling of the car. My mom and I were much more calm after checking up on my brother, but the real problem now was the car’s damage. Upon inspection the car looked fine in all other places except the front, it had been crushed from the impact and it was unsure to us if it would even run.

It was clear to both my mother and I that if we wanted to get back home, we would have to see if it would take us the remaining 15 miles. Also our phones were out of service and dead so that idea went out the window before the impact However only part of the front was showing because we would have to dig it out from the sand mound. My mom always kept gardening tools in the back of the car because every once in awhile she would start to tend to her plants at home, so we grabbed shovels and began to unearth the car.

After about an hour we had finished excavating, it was time to test if the engine worked, so I got in the car and I crossed my fingers as I put in the car key and turned it. It miraculously roared to life, my mom and I cheered and she ran and traded me seats so she could drive. We would still make it to our destination, but not for the same purpose. We thought all was well and done, but our worst fears came true and the car started to abruptly shut off. It would still start back up again, but only with a bit of effort.

Finally the car died on us half a mile outside the city. I got out of the car and popped the hood so I could begin to inspect it, I knew a little bit about cars so I thought maybe I could fix it. After about half an hour of tinkering I had fixed it, but only temporarily because the car would only run for an estimation of about 20 miles or so, but that was more than enough to get me and my mom into the city and home. Once we had gotten to city the problem had shifted from getting to my friend’s house to fixing the car and getting home.

We were new to this city so we knew nothing except for the name of it. Although the city was a little bit smaller than St. Louis, but it was breathtaking. To my surprise the air was fresh, it was like the fresh air in a meadow. The people overall were pretty nice with some even offering to take us to the mechanic when we asked. I really liked this city, but one thing was pretty infuriating, which was that the streets were like a labyrinth. Due to the streets being so complicated, we were out walking around for an hour before we found the mechanic.

Once we got to him, he simply took us in his tow truck, towed our car, fixed the car, charged us and we went home. So overall this story may have not been all that stimulating, but it is one of the stories I recall the best. It happened fairly recently and I always laugh when I think of my brother not realizing we had a wreck because he was asleep! | also suspect you may be wondering what happened to the car and if you’re not, then your should stop reading this and give me an A, but in all seriousness our beloved family car did survive… for about a month then we traded it in for a grey SUV.
