Renewable Energy Argumentative Essay

Because of the climate change, the earth is in danger. People don’t realize that the things they use or do every day are hurting the earth and living things. Nature. org says, “… one-fourth of Earth’s species will be headed for extinction by 2050 if the warming trend continues at its current rate… ” Because the temperature is increasing, ice is melting. Because ice is melting, sea levels are rising. Higher temperatures don’t only melt ice but evaporates the moisture in the air. Evaporation will take away all of the land’s water leaving it as dry as a desert.

With a drought now in progress, it will make it harder to find water and support agriculture. That is why it is important to find ways to help the planet, not hurt it. Renewable energy is one of the many ways humans can help. Renewable energy is any energy resource that is naturally regenerated over a short time scale and derived directly from the sun, indirectly from the sun, or from other natural movements and mechanisms of the environment. If we choose not to do anything now, the earth won’t be able to supply us as much as it does now.

Future generations won’t be able to breathe as easily or drink water as clean as ours. The future will be all about survival and not about relaxation. “Renewable energy has been subsidized to varying degrees over the last three decades yet wind and solar energy still constitute less than 1 percent of the electricity market and likewise wouldn’t exist at all absent government intervention. ” — Jerry Taylor WIND Wind energy has been used ever since the beginning of time. It helped move boats along the Nile River in 5,000 B. C. and grinded grains in 500 B. C. for the Persians.

The use of wind nergy eventually spreaded around the world by 1,000 A. D. Wind is one of the many ways you can reuse energy. Wind comes from the changes in the atmosphere. It is able to move by the changes of the temperature and pressure, which all starts from the sun. A wind turbine is similar to a wind wheel but it is larger and uses the wind to produce energy. A wind turbine is the form of energy conversion in which turbines convert the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical or electrical energy that can be used for power. The wind makes the blades spin which powers up a generator, which creates kinetic energy.

The energy is made into electricity. It is best to have wind turbines in areas that have a lot of wind. For the blades to move, they need enough wind to continuously blow them. It can be installed from anywhere from land to boats. One turbine can generate enough energy for one house. Wind power is good for the environment, cheap, and reliable. It is time, as a matter of pride, as well as a matter of national security, for the United States of America to lead the world in the energy revolution, and not lag behind Japan or Germany. -John Kerry WATER Hydropower is the energy that is created from water falling or flowing. 2,000 year ago, the Greeks often used water wheels for turning wheat into flour. Since then, people around the world have been using this source of energy. Hydropower plants use dams to hold back water that is then released through a turbine. The turbine’s spinning starts a generator that produces energy. Something that is unique about hydropower is that it has the ability to store energy. It starts as the same as a regular power plant, but instead of the turbine spinning forward, it spins backwards.

The turbine pumps the water to a pool, like, area that stores the water when needed. If needed, the water is released back to the turbine, spinning it forward starting the generator. The use of water energy is very cheap and is good for the environment. It produces a small amount of heat that is not enough to harm the earth. Also, the dams built can help prevent the area from flooding. “Solar power is the last energy resource that isn’t owned yet – nobody taxes the sun yet. ” –Bonnie Raitt SOLAR Solar energy is the most popular way of renewable energy. It is radiant energy emitted by the sun.

Over the past couple of years, solar panels have been added to our communities. Solar panels are designed to absorb the sun’s rays as a source of energy for generating electricity or heating. It all starts with a solar cell; they are what provide the power. One solar cell will only provide a little bit of power, but several of them will create a lot. When several are together, they make up a solar panel. When several panels are together, they make up a solar array. Inside a solar cell, there are two layers of silicon. Negative electrons are on top and positive electrons are on the bottom.

When exposed to light, it gives the electrons the ability to move; they then create electricity. Having solar panels help fight against greenhouse gases and lower our use of fossil fuel. When fossil fuel is used for electricity, it releases toxic fumes into the air that could cause pollution or global warming. What people don’t realize about oil is that there is a limited amount of it on Earth. That is why it is important to find new ways to replace it. By using renewable energy, we are helping the plant one-step at a time. Just because someone can’t physically see the damage, it doesn’t mean it’s not there.
