In the move Edward Scissorhands, there is a man that was created by an inventor and has scissors as hands. He is an invention with a heart, and actual body parts. He would wear a black suit and have black hair. He is very pale with scratch marks on his face. He and his father lived in a mansion away from the community. The character would live on the top floor of the mansion and have a bed with pictures and newspaper articles on the wall. He was taken down to the neighborhood by a lady selling cosmetics and he was amazed by the world. Edward is the man that is being described. In the movie Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton’s fairy tale-like style is conveyed through his use of low key lighting and flashback.
One characteristic of Burton’s fantastical style is his use of front lighting. Front lighting causes the character to look innocent. It creates the character to seem good. The purpose of an establishing shot is to show a setting. So in the beginning, the established shot was the town and also where Edward lived. It showed the whole mansion and then all of the houses in the town. In the very beginning, they showed Edward looking at the town through the window.
