Colonial America depended on the natural environment to meet basic needs of the people and the colony. Colonial America also had regional differences among culture or historical reason for establishment as a colony. The three big geographic location were the South, Middle, and the New England colonies. In the South you had Virginia and in the Middle you had Pennsylvania and in the New England colonists you had Massachusetts. Because of geographic reason farming, Native American, and a way of living playing a big impact in Colonial America.
The every first stable colony was Jamestown in Virginia in the year 1607. It was also the first colony in the south. Although it was not the first people who travel to the New World it was the first stable one. Before Jamestown there was another colony name Roanoke Colony. However that much is not know from it. They called Roanoke Colony the lost colony since no one was there. When they landed in the New World they didn’t see a trace of the Roanoke Colony. It’s like if the Roanoke Colony never settle in the New World.
Many people say that they all got like my Native American, however not even their house were there where they live in or not even body nearby were there. lt was later named the Virginia Colony was founded by John Smith in 1607. One of the reason why the settle in the new world was because of religious freedom. During that time the king made his own religion, and the people of England needed to follow it. However not everyone felt the same way as the king. It was also a great time to settle somewhere else since in England it was getting too over population.
That’s when the Virginia Company help them out to settle in the new world. However when they first settle it was thought the winter and many people had died. One big thing that had help them survive were the Native Americans since they knew the place better than the whites did. The whites in the south had it easy with some of the native tribes, rather some in the north did not later on. The Native Americans show them how to farm in the area since they settle near the ocean. One big thing the whites got out of the whites was tobacco.
Tobacco was the other reason why the colonies survive in fact tobacco is the backbone of the what is now United States. The reason why tobacco was so successful was because it was like no other taste they tasted before. In England they have had tobacco before but they really like the ones that the colonies were farming. John Rolfe was the one who made it possible buy mix the tobacco from the Native American, and the tobacco from the Bermudas. The succesful that Virginia had made some other people come to the new world and start a new life.
Which later also included the Maryland Colony, the North Carolina Colony, the South Carolina Colony, and the Georgia Colony. The Maryland Colony was founded by Cecil Calvert, Lord Baltimore and others in 1633 at Baltimore. The Maryland Colony was founded as a refuge for English Catholics. Many Catholics were getting kill in England that is why many of them settle in the new world. Catholics were the ones who found maryland. They settle in a town they made name Baltimore for the king Baltimore. They also name the colony St. Mary which is later on change to Maryland.
They also grew tobacco in a way of living. In 1712 North Carolina becomes a separate Colony since Carolina use to be a whole colony. North Carolina is also big in farming with tobacco. It was so big that they had so many slaves working there. Slavery was common in the Southern Colonies, exploiting workers to work on large land. Other big thing that they farm was rice the same goes with some other Southern colonies. The North Carolina Colony’s first governor was Edward Hyde. James Oglethorpe founded the colony of Georgia in the year of 1732.
Georgia was named by the king of England name King Georgia the second. A big thing in Georgia was that they did not allow people who were Roman Catholic ,James Oglethorpe served as the Georgia Colony’s governor for 12 years. During which time slavery and alcohol were banned. Georgia is right near Florida, so that near they were look to spain. At that time Flordia belong to the spanish. Therefore there were many fights between Georgia and Florida. However they also had the French in Louisiana nearby not only that but they also had the indian also that they need to did with.
It was the last of the thirteen original American colonies established by. Pennsylvania was founded by a group of religious people called Quakers. Pennsylvania is part of the Middle Colony and is near New York which is also part of the middle colony. The man person was William Penn who was the leader. They seek religious freedom since not lots of people like them. What is so special about them is that they believe in peace, and also their gender roles is also special. They believe that men and woman are both equal and that one is not much powerful than the other one.
Unlike some other religious groups they believe that woman should be able to preach the word of God, and not just woman. Pennsylvania was named after William Penn who found the colony. Since Quakers were not people who like to fight and were always in peace they really did not have trouble with the Native Americans. The same goes with slavery later on they did not believe in slavery and in was against the law to have slavery. New York was founded from Dutch people who came from the Netherlands. The New York Colony was once called New Netherlands. New York was named after the duke of York.
The Dutch people also found New Jersey and New Hampshire. The one big thing that the Dutch had was that they did slavery. However the people in New York had some trouble with some of the Indians living nearby. Massachusetts was founded in 16020 in plymouth. A group of pilgrims from England came in a ship called the mayflower. However it was not name the Massachusetts Bay Colony unile 10 more years. Massachusetts is part of the New England colonies. Even though the New England and the middle and the south colonies are near each other they are different in every different way.
Therefore were they settle impact the people’s way of living. Why is that the people in the south had a better way of living than some in the New England area. Or even why is that people in the south have better farming than in the north. People in the south had this huge land of farming. In which they grew tobacco in which made them have a stable life. How ever all over the colonies people were farming from tap Bacot to rice. all over the colonies they had so much land that needed to be work on. These people needed workers to do the hard labor for the landowners. That is where in Darrington servants comes in place.
Many people all over the colonies were put ads in where it will say whoever wanted to go to the new well could’ve if they work for them. And many people came from England to work for the landowners to work in their land. In return for working for the landowners the line owners will pay the workers by giving them land of them on. What the landowners also did was that as many people you brought over to the New World met you got more land in return Therefore many people from England will come to the new well with their whole entire family so they could get more land in return.
What many people had work contracts where their lot owners in where day will work for seven years and after the seven years are over they will get the line and returned. W many landowners did was instead of giving land and return for their hard labor they would’ve paid him instead. For the reason for was they were loose more money if they give away land then money at self. Since you make money out of the line every year and you can make up for the money you pay your workers instead of giving the land and losing the money forever. However you had people who did not like giving money or land back to the worker.
Therefore that is where slavery come in and people start getting slaves. People liked having slaves since they did not have to pay nothing for there hard labor. Most of the people who had slavery were the southern colonies Since they had more land to farm they needed for the tobacco. The North, South, and Middle Colonies had it difference and it’s similar, but where the colonies were made a big impact in their way of living. The northern colonies were shaped mostly by fish, making boat, and trade, the southern colonies by tobacco and cash crops even rice, and the middle colonies by their wheat and trade.
