The visual artist that I have chosen to write about is a man named Leonardo da Vinci. During the Renaissance from the year of 1400-1600 AD Vinci was known for his visual art paintings that we know of today We know him for his painting but he also was a Writer, Inventor, and he was even a Mathematician. In this paper, I will be giving a brief description of Leonardo da Vinci. Why was his painting so important in historical elements during this time and do an assessment of at least one of his paintings?
Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in a farmhouse of the hills of Tuscany just outside of the village of Anchiano otherwise known as Italy. His parents were not married, his mother was a young peasant woman named Caterina but his father, and his stepmothers raised him. His father moved him to the family estates at the age of five to be with his uncle and his grandparents. When he was younger, he received only little formal education that was beyond the basic reading, writing and even mathematics instruction but his best talents were artistic and that was evident from an early age.
When da Vinci was, twenty years old he was qualified for a membership for a master artist in Florence’s Guild of Saint Luke and his did his own established workshop. He did a lot of collaborating with his teachers for another five years. Verrocchio was completed his Baptism of Christ and around the year 1475 he had help from his student that the painting part of the background and the angel who was holding the robe of Jesus. In 1478, he received his first independent commission for a piece that reside in the chapel of Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio.
Leonard da Vinci is famous for four different painting and they are the Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, Vitruvian Man, Lady with an Ermine and his Self-portrait. Leonardo da Vinci still considered one the greatest and his is one of the most influential artists in history. He is famous for the Mona Lisa this painting is the most famous because of its mystery. We are uncertain if the painting is portrait of the wife of Florentine citizen Francesco Del Giocondo, as everyone had believed. Mona Lisa’s has an enigmatic smile and it remains that her smile is a subject of speculation.
She was to believe to be a middle class woman who lived in Florence. The painting is still at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. Another famous painting that he did, everyone knows, and that is The Last Supper is the mural that representation of Jesus and His twelve disciples this is when Jesus had said that one of his disciples have betrayed him. The scene is astutely and the disciples’ feeling of anxiety upon hearing this news.

This is a model painting that has been identified as Cecilia Gallerani she was known for being the mistress of Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan. This painting is one of the only four Leonardo da Vinci’s female portraits Lady with an Ermine can be located at the Czartoryski Museum, Krakow, Poland.
Leonardo da Vinci did amazing things and he was very talented when it comes to his paintings. The one thing I did not know is that he painted the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, I have heard of them but never knew who painted these famous paintings but now I do. Along with writing about him I know what that he was a smart man and will be looking at his painting in a different way than I would have if I never did my research for this paper.
