On 1934, 17 year old Crystal May was in her bedroom getting ready for the night she has always waited for, prom. Brian May, her sweetheart all through her high school year and former husband was taking her to her senior prom. Crystal had a long, light blue dress with little diamonds all over the pretty dress, diamonds because that was crystal’s favorite jewel, she felt like a queen. Now crystal is 76 years old, living in an apartment in new york city her life is coming to an end very soon because her doctor informed her she had liver cancer.
Crystal has been very depressed because she knows her time is running out, brian is trying to find a way and anyway to make her last moments of her life joyful. One day, on a sunday morning at 11 am brian just got out of church with his family, now he is bringing brunch to his lovely wife because she didn’t get the chance to go to church this morning, she wasn’t feeling well. As brian was walking up the stairs and through the hallways he saw one of his neighbors, max. Max was a bright kid, one of the smartest, talented kids brian has ever met. thier family has helped the mays with their needs and have been so supportive.
Max was tall, tan, dark hair and bright green eyes with a fantastic smile, max was walking out of his door, brian made eye contact with max and said hello, what are you doing today young man? ” max replied “going to my school to help get decorations for prom on saturday night” suddenly brian had the greatest idea, he turned around and told max the situation, how crystal is very upset and he is having a hard time trying to make her happy, he asked where to get prom dresses at, he thought they could have a beautiful dinner and dress up because that’s what crystal loved to do.
Max eyes 1 OF 4 got so bright brian thought he could of became blind after that, max put his warm hand on mr may yellow rain jacket, he could feel the cold little raindrops still on his jacket and mr may shaking and breathing, ‘Mr May i got a great idea! ” said max with the a almost screaming voice, it startled brian and made his ears ring. “how about you two go to prom! i can get you tickets, it will be a wonderful night, and will bring joy in her life! please? it will be so fun!. Mr may smiled so big all you saw was raw gums,” hat is a perfect idea! he will have such a good time, singing, dancing and…. mr may’s smile went away and sad eyes appeared he remembered that she might not feel good on that day and wouldn’t be able to go. “it’s a great idea max, but some days she can’t do a lot, it would make her feel worse if she went and couldn’t enjoy herself… thank you son, i hope you have a great time at prom saturday night, make sure you get pictures we would love to see them. Max looked down at the ground, he felt this heart in his heart, it was like he could feel mr mays pain.
Max was not going to let that pain stay there, “mr may! brian turned around and said yes sir? “what if she sits in a wheel chair and relaxes while she feels bad, she will still be there! ” mr may smile came back and nodded his head, “max, you’re a good kid, let’s get this started! ” max jumped with excitement” sweet! let’s go now, we gotta go shopping, buy your tickets, i got to tell the school, let’s go! ” mr may laughed and said we will start on friday, we still got all week and crystals food is getting cold. max understood and said goodbye to brian. friday night, brian, crystal and max went to get their outfits. rystals face lit up with excitement when they arrived at the dress store down town. they looked for the perfect dress, no luck. they wanted a dress that would make mrs may feel like a queen, just like she did on her prom. they looked all over and there was still nothing that made her feel like she did before.
They were about to leave but then they all hear a gasp coming from the little old lady in the wheelchair, crystal. brian and max ran over there and mrs may pointed and said in a soft voice “that’s the one” the two men looked up and saw a long beautiful, cream dress that was poofy at the end. nd of course had little diamonds on the top of the cream dress. mr may and max looked at each other with a smile and bought the dress, but first made sure it fit her and wasn’t to heavy, it was perfect. the dress was 800$ and max had no problem paying that for the mays. 1pm on saturday afternoon was crystal’s hair appointment, max took her while mr may went next door from the hair salon and went to barbershop next door. once they were done they went home and put their suits on. max went to his house to get ready as well.
It was time, max surprised crystal and brian with a white limo, they were shocked and even more excited, they finally arrived to north high’s prom night. When they walked in the theme was “under the sea” everything was blue, there were white and green lights on the floor and ceiling, the tables were decorated in a blue cloth that was designed to look like a wave and the stage was the back, you could not miss it, it was huge!. Everybody was all dressed up, you could smell all the cologne and perfume the teenagers were wearing, it made brian’s nose sting.
They first visited the buffet and they even had crystals favorite food on the menu, mashed potatoes, so of course she ate the fluffy warm buttery/salty goodness. The night went on and Mr and Mrs May danced while they could and then relaxed while watched others enjoy their night. at 10:30pm it was time to announce the prom king and queen, everybody knew that it was going to be max and his girlfriend because they are the most popular kids in the school. the principal got up on stage and talked in the mic, did the little speech and then he nnounced brian may and crystal may on stage, they both looked at each other with shock and looked at max.
Max smiled and said “go on” they out the crowns on each other and took some pictures and had a king a queen dance. when the night ended they were so tired they went straight home, brian thanked max for making his wife happy, max said you’re welcome and they both ended the night with a smile on their face. The next morning crystal may had past, people were sad but atleast they know her last day was the time of her life.
